I think most people no longer believe there is a way to fix it without a lot of pain, diligent work and no-nonsense planning ... things found in precious few elected officials.

The only way out is to expand revenue through expanding resources. Cutting spending by 1 or 2%, which is a lot, won't do it. Increasing revenues by 10 to 15% will. How? Space Resources? Energy?
