Amazing to me all of the attacks from the mainstream media on Nikki Haley just two days in. They will lose their ****ing minds when DeSantis announces.

Its almost like she just sits around and sees what the talking points are coming from the cultural Left...then positions herself close to that view and across from the cultural right.

The only hard right position she has is to always support corporate America from attack and always support Israel.

I have no idea what the exact segment of the Republican party that would favor that kind of candidate is...but its probably less than 10% of the party voters.

Attack the Confederate flag and Civil War statues....defend the NAACP....attack minimum wage...defend Israel....hug Jesse Jackson...talk about "common sense immigration reform" aka amnesty...defend "gun rights" and the gun lobby...talk about how we need a moderate "consensus on abortion" and no national ban....talk about "traditional American religious values"...then talk about how great feminism is...ect.

Douthat: She has generally offered herself as the candidate of Reaganite bromides and as a potential vehicle for members of the Republican gentry who wish the Trump era had never happened but don't particularly want to have any unpleasant fights about it. That's a vision that's neither inspiring nor unsettling; it's just dull and useless and unlikely to take her anywhere.

Goldberg: She's such a hollow figure that it's impossible to say what her vision is. "What I've heard again and again is that Haley's raw skills obscure an absence of core beliefs and a lack of tactical thinking," Tim Alberta wrote in a great profile of her in 2021. She'd most likely pursue a hawkish foreign policy, though, so she could be the candidate of those nostalgic for the George W. Bush administration.

Gray: Haley might be the last person in American politics still quoting Sheryl Sandberg. "We are leaning in," Haley told Sean Hannity last month. "It is time for a new generation. It is time for more leadership." But at 51, she's part of a political generation that can hardly be considered "new." Her candidacy feels trapped in the post-Tea Party, mid-Obama administration era when she rose to prominence.

Madrid: Haley will be the first of many candidates trying to connect with Trump's populist base while also resurrecting the establishment infrastructure that capitulated to him. If she can explain that she was against him before she was for him and now is against him again in a way that wins over voters and reassures party leaders, it may be inspiring for the sliver of Republicans who still maintain the party can return to the Reagan-Bush days, and unsettling for everyone else.

McCarthy: What's unsettling is that her vision is a prepackaged failure. She was a moderately conservative governor and something of a soft libertarian at a time when an aggressive neoconservatism was dominant in the G.O.P. But when she took to the national stage she proved unable to distinguish between the tough realism of Jeane Kirkpatrick and the tough-sounding but inept idealism of the George W. Bush administration. She imbibed Robert Kagan when she should have studied George Kennan.

French: She's a conventional Republican. If no one like her can gain traction, it will be a decisive signal that the Republican base has fundamentally transformed.

Coaston: Haley ought to be an interesting candidate daughter of immigrants, former governor of a state experiencing big population shifts, a U.N. ambassador but she seems to have no real basis to run for office. She's not a populist, and she's not a culture warrior.

Daniel McCarthy: The interventionist foreign policy that Ambassador Haley has made her signature theme in recent years is unlikely to resonate in an America First party.

McCarthy: Did you ever wish Hillary Clinton was a Republican? Now she is!

[Nikki Haley, the former South Carolinian governor, announced her candidacy with much fanfare yesterday. As The American Conservative's own Declan Leary noted in his weekend column, Haley's sterling quality is that she doesn't stand for anything in particular, and appears to have little discomfort or shame when it comes to waffling about policy, which could be a real asset if the 2024 GOP platform is as vapid as 2020's fifty-point non-platform or Kevin McCarthy's embarrassing "Commitment to America." ]

using your middle name is now "changing" your name. Only MILLIONS of people do it.

Rihanna's full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty - she's a fraud!!!

Racism is now cool !

Bishop Talbert is of course always unhinged.

He accuses Nikki of erasing Black history...when as Gov. it was White Southern history she erased.

While doubling the funding of Black history in SC.

Talbert is the kind of Black progressive who nothing is ever enough for.

Besides taking down the Confederate flag (and reneging on an agreement to pay money to create a new display for it in the South Carolina Civil War relic room)…what did she accomplish as Governor?

I seriously can't recall any accomplishments.

attacking someone for having a nickname is pretty silly. And in this case, it is an anglicized version of a foreign name, an explicit effort of acculturation by an immigrant family. This angle of attack goes nowhere fast.

"Reaganite bromides" ?? What a fascinating perspective from the NYT's designated conservative codpiece.

and then there's David French again getting confused on cause & effect.

Anyone who's been paying attention knows The Squad is no outlier in the Democrat Party. Much of their ideology is now mainstream.

For all your ceaseless *****ing and moaning about Republicans, it's odd to never hear you say a peep about the hard left turn of the Democrats.

How so? The UN Is a complete garbage organization that shouldnt exist so what difference does it make to send a person who sucks at her job there? And Trump is correct about Gov McMaster. He has been a far better gov than Nikki. Nikki is basically everything that sucks about republicans all rolled into one woman. Too bad my congressional rep Nancy Mace is just a Nikki starter kit.

Well that is obvious.

"Racism" accusations are just a tool used by liberals for control and to attack their enemies.

That does not change the fact that Nikki sucks on so many levels.

Leaving aside the absurdity of trying to link race to a political party…

Hasan (a Muslim from India) should be aware that the Sikhs are historically a martial race and almost always vote center-right in politics in modern times. Whether in India, UK, or USA

So being a Republican is certainly not "race treason" for a Sikh.

In fact Harmeet Dhillon is a Sikh and just ran for Chairwoman of the RNC.
