Uh . . . a pro-Palestinian group claimed responsibility.

Elon truly has lost it. Sick in the head.
If he says the IP addresses are in the Ukraine, that would be a fact. If you don't know what an IP address is, that's on you. It's not rocket science. He didn't say if they were Palestinian or not.

I posted in the BC thread about this and questioned whether a hacker this skilled would leave his IP address open.

But, regardless, the pro-Palestinian group is based in Russia, so I guess that is the "Ukraine area."

Elon is piece of **** for saying that. And to think he called a decorated soldier and astronaut a traitor on the same day.

Yes, I despise Elon.

But, in the other thread, I actually said it would not surprise me at all if some Ukrainians were pissed at Musk and tried to do something like this.

Here, however, we have a known hacker group claiming responsibility v. Elon's claim without any evidence.

How do you do that math?

You are not understanding. An IP address is designated to a network at an address at any given time. It can only be where it is. These addresses are assigned to the network by an ISP. Its rather easy to track these down. That is what Elon said. The IP addresses were in the Ukraine. Technically, IP addresses are assigned through a hierarchical system managed by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) and Regional Internet Registries (RIRs), with ISPs then assigning addresses to their customers using methods like Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP).

NATO is pretty big now days

So even if Russia was trying reoccupying vassal states....there are not many available

Incorrect. You are speaking of a VPN. The cheaper the VPN, the easier it is to track. The free VPN's do absolutely nothing. If you supplied personal information to the VPN, you can be tracked. If there are several types of malware on any machine you can be tracked. The list goes on. If you are relying on a VPN to hide your personal IP, it doesn't always work, especially when you have hardware and software like the best in the world, Elon Musk. If he said he tracked the IPs to Ukraine, he would have hard evidence to say so. All VPN does (in this context) is to route your internet connection, from your assigned IP to a remote proxy server, which then passes all those to/from communications you perform when opening web pages and internet services.

As far as not knowing what I'm talking about, my years as an IT Manager for companies where handled over 80 employees, 2 Window servers and 1 Red Hat server by myself say otherwise. How about you?

No it's not.

"It can only be where it is." This makes no sense.

IPs are like parking spots at Walmart. Just because someone parked there at one time doesn't mean they had anything to do with it.

This may be surprising to you but DDOS attacks don't happen from your home computer assigned by Google Fiber. Most are from bot networks (lots of people spread around with malware)

Have you ever setup a Server? If so, you know that you contact an ISP, who gets their IPs from IANA. You can also get a public IP address from a Regional Internet Registry (RIR) if you are a big setup. You get the IPs, then you setup your network and assign individual IPs unless you are running a dynamic setup. You might use static IPs if you are using VOIP and PCs at the same time.

ISPs obtain IP addresses from the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) and the Regional Internet Registries (RIRs), which manage the IP address space and allocate blocks of addresses to ISPs.

You can get a whole block of IPs from AWS in 5 minutes right now that was owned by someone in India 5 minutes ago. You have no idea what you are talking about

Uh . . . a pro-Palestinian group claimed responsibility.

Your hate for Elon blinds you to all possibilities

"An IP address is designated to a network at an address at any given time."
No it's not.

"It can only be where it is." This makes no sense.

"These addresses are assigned to the network by an ISP." No they aren't

IPs are like parking spots at Walmart. Just because someone parked there at one time doesn't mean they had anything to do with it.

This may be surprising to you but DDOS attacks don't happen from your home computer assigned by Google Fiber. Most are from bot networks (lots of people spread around with malware)
IP addresses are assigned through a hierarchical system managed by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) and Regional Internet Registries (RIRs), with ISPs then assigning addresses to their customers using methods like Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP).
This is like saying your clothing is assigned by God. Also, most IPs have absolutely nothing to do with IANA or DHCP.

Remember what Elon said, he tracked the IPs to the Ukraine, that's all. That is where the IPs were located that were the hackers. Doesnt mean that they were physically in the Ukraine. If you get a block from AWS that was owned by someone in India, that can be traced back to India, IF that is where the ISP was that the IANA assigned them to. There is always a trail.

Ukraine doesn't even have enough bandwidth to bring down Twitter. It also would be incredibly easy to block a range of traffic like that. Most shady **** comes from China/Russia/NK and it is near impossible to follow the trail in this amount of time

Most shady **** comes from China/Russia/NK and it is near impossible to follow the trail in this amount of time
If Elon said that the IP came from Ukraine, I believe him simply because he is the most brilliant man in technology today. He has an army of tech wizards who are gung ho, young and on the cutting edge of technologies, not like us old geezers. They are re-writing technology even as we speak, with the use of AI. Wish I knew more about AI, but I'm out of the game.
For what it is worth, his army disagrees with him
No, they don't. Re-read the meme. Not a disagreement.

Uh . . . a pro-Palestinian group claimed responsibility.

Your hate for Elon blinds you to all possibilities

This is like saying your clothing is assigned by God. Also, most IPs have absolutely nothing to do with IANA or DHCP.

Definitely not chiming in on the tech, but Elon said "Ukraine area," and his own employees called him out even for that.
I don't see where his own employees are calling him out. The guy you re-tweeted earlier seems to agree with him.

If I was a criminal I'd also take advantage of the morons in the US that will believe anything they read on twitter. What a great time to capitalize on being a traitor to your country
