Yes, the label is often overused & abused but the regressive really are fascist to those who understand the true definition of the term. The problem is that too many people do not know what it means. They allow the media or other Leftists to define it as conservative and capitalist. That's a myth that began with Stalin. The Leftists (aka fascists or regressives) are also very good at projecting. Whatever they accuse others of doing is usually exactly if what they are doing. The Russian collusion hoax is an excellent example.

The bedrock issue is lack of professional honesty and integrity. If that were in place, the Academy would have insisted on Gay's dismissal for her doctoral dissertation's blatant plagiarism of Dr. Carol Swain's original work. That dissertation was unprofessionally monitored during its composition and then signed off on by the dissertation defense committee.

Harvard and the rest over the Ivies have been following all whacko Leftist trends for decades. They've sullied their brand with Marxist lies, idiotic policies (often blatantly illegal or unconstitutional), grade inflation, and so on to the point that their education isn't what it used to be. However, graduates can still get high paying jobs and donors still gladly give them billions, despite the poor product they often provide.

On the other hand, I suspect they still do have plenty of top notch education in the sciences (maybe including teaching future doctors how to murder babies in the womb and seniors now considered "too old"), the legal profession (no doubt including all the most recent bogus ideas about BLM & the like), and the business world (although sullied by all the Marxist rot that has damaged the corporate world of late). I did not include education because I think the entire national educational system is corrupted by all kinds of idiotic Marxist ideas.

This is blatant racism which violates civil rights laws and is clearly unconstitutional. It really is simple: any racial policy by any entity that treats any ethnic or national group in a way that would be racism if applied to blacks or other groups, is racism. That's what "equal protection under the law" means: everyone is to be treated equally. This is not difficult. The fascists have always been racists and this is a modern iteration.

It speaks volumes the president of a supposedly elite university is not qualified to earn tenure at the average junior college and is a massive plagiarist ... and the media barely notices.

Sometimes I wonder if they have ever cared about rule of law. The only times it seems that they do care about the law is when they can use it (or abuse it) against their opponents. But that's not rule of law it's law fare, a tactic terrorists sometimes like to use providing examples of abuse.
