Had we given the Soviet Union MNF trade status and exported our manufacturing to them in the 1950s and 1960s...it would still be around today. Nixon going to China will go down in history as one of the biggest trade/national security blunders in our history.

Agreed

Nixon was the worst Republican POTUS since Herbert Hoover.

He is not wrong. It needs to change. We can't keep building with low bid and value engineering constantly cutting to "reduce risk" while we pay Executives ridiculous salaries as we produce less and less. It has to change.

It sounds like a rudimentary trade "deal" was signed. China has typically not followed through on their end. I think Trump needed some time to secure rare earths from other sources as well as bring up our domestic capacities in areas. Maybe this deal will bridge.

Still another incredible business accomplishment by Trump.

This time involving China.

We are watching possibly the greatest president since FDR.

Amazing how Trump can multi task.

Doubt he's getting more than 5 hours of sleep a night.

It is past time some Trump haters finally put their ego's aside.......and give the man the credit he deserves.

Engineer thinking is a double edge sword. They are very much geared towards building, but they are also very static. They do not do well with changes or having to skip steps that prove to be unproductive. If they need to go from A to F and they can't get past C, they will stop. I have managed Engineers my whole career. When someone asks me what is the key to moving innovation forward, my answer is don't put an engineer in charge.

Trump must give them fits. This is good news when thinking of Trump negotiating.

That's been my experience. Lawyers don't create wins.

It looks like DC is filled with parasitic lawyers who do little but suck the juice out of the country. Need more doers IMO. Doers tend to be more practical and get stuff done.

There is a role for lawyers for sure but maybe when you reach a critical mass you get the mess we are in now.

I saw new tariffs at 47%. That's high.

Yes....I read down 10% from the 50s to the 40s in percent tariff as a result of the deal.

[For years, Xi Jinping has encouraged the usage of many Maoist-era slogans. One such slogan, "Sailing the Seas Depends on the Helmsman," was a Cultural Revolution staple, used in song, speeches, and on posters praising the chairman. The slogan's reemergence highlights a connection in how the state viewed itself then and now.

The slogan also reflects Xi's view of himself. As his years in office have gone on, this self-portrait has also been imposed on the party itself. Xi is presented as singular and irreplaceable. And yet, inevitably, he will need one day to be replaced.

Already seventy-two years old, Xi likely will secure another five-year term in 2027. But time is an enemy not so easily purged. As the years go on, the passage of time will silently erode Xi's authority and reshape the behavior of other Chinese elites, loosening his hold over them, whether or not the aging leader is ready for it.

Xi's China pretends succession is a solved problem. It is not. The CCP chooses to ignore the question publicly, but behind closed doors, the party cadres know the clock is ticking....]
