They grew up in Christian homes and there are many aspects of Christianity that they like and they want to be a part of. Other being trans, they are really good people, probably the nicest and most generous people I've ever met. Christianity has effectively disowned them though. I think that is the most tragic thing about all of this. And if Jesus is going to be disappointed with anyone, it's going to be the people that failed to spread the word and love to people that don't fit in the box.

I do feel for your trans friend, and anyone who struggles with their sexuality and identity issues. I think the question is, would Jesus be ok with unrepentant sin? Based on my review of his teachings, as well as the teachings of the other NT writers, I believe the answer is unequivocally, "No." While Jesus saved the woman caught in the act of adultery, he did not say to her: "Go and live your life as you wish." Instead, he advised her that while he does not condemn her, she must "go and sin no more."

The writings in 1 John are particularly on point, and should cause any person that has unrepentant sin in his or her life to seriously examine themselves to determine whether they are, in fact, a part of the flock. Paul said we must work out our salvation with fear and trembling. I think Christians should take those verses seriously.

If we lead people to believe they can live a lifestyle that God does not condone, I think we are leading them down the primrose path to destruction. The bible's truths are clear, and its position on sin was clear. So while I feel for people who struggle with ANY unrepentant sin (I've been there myself), to me the greater damage is leading that person to believe they can continue down the primrose path.
