Now…the guy who taught my tennis lessons in Saudi held a Doctorate degree in the Philippines and he made more as a handy man in KSA than he did at home…by a lot. His dream was a fish farm. So every month about 80% of his earnings went back to his family.
He lived in what most of us would call tenement housing (they called it dorms) with about 9 other dudes to a 10x10 space. While I was there he hit the 10 year mark working there and his family did get a fish farm so he went back home. He told me once that it was better to work there as a slave than free at home because at home he was still a slave but he made way less.

Pros for hereditary House of Lords
- Not many - tradition and preservation of existing interests. Many hereditary lords are heirs of political prime ministers from previous centuries
- No need for elections...politically independent
- Lords can speak their minds as party affiliation and whipping has less impact as they cannot lose their seat. There is much more cross bench support and even crossing the floor
- somewhat greater checks and balances constitutionally and a little more scrutiny in the policy-making process
