Let me put it this way - if Trump had done as well in his debate with Harris, he would probably all but have this race in the bag right now including overcoming the inevitable dim cheating.
yes, the big Takeaway from last night is everybody is wondering why the heck these two people aren't the presidential candidates.. made the two actual potus canidates look like the couple of doofus they are
Vance overall was better, but Walz did fairly well most of the time. He made more gaffs that could be turned into Meme's, but he was polite and came across as fairly down to earth. Something he doesn't do when on the stump.

Vances non-answer about Biden winning the past election was his only real slip up.

He should have said, the election had been certified and that Biden was the winner. That our Republic worked as it was intended to work, and there was in the end a peaceful transfer of power. That no candidate and no party is greater than the Republic and there will always be democratically elected officials as long as we follow the intent of the Founding fathers, and stay true to the constitution.

Nobody could find fault with an answer such as that. I could have come up with it off the top of my head, and Vance is much better than I am at this stuff.

Not sure if he was deferring to the base or just didn't want to get backed into a corner saying the election was legit.

Sounds as though both men put to rest lies about their competence.

Really they did.

This seemed like an old school presidential debate, where actual policy was discussed and disagreements were cordial.

Not like the elementary school stuff Harris and Trump participated in.

Nor did I but my wife did and she said it was the best debate for civility she had ever watched. She was thoroughly impressed by Vance, not so much by Walz. However she is a long time GOP voter so there is that.

I did notice the Washing Post gave good reviews to Vance which is unheard of from that media. The NYT's only ran a couple of features which means Walz didn't impress them.

The NY Post is hilarious as always poking fun at their rivals.

Along the same lines the Boston globe praised Vance. Unheard of from that paper

All of the praise that Vance is getting....especially with some coming from left leaning media sources....has got to be driving Trump crazy.

Dude is sharp as a tack.

He won't be beaten in a debate.

All of Vivek's speaking ability without the excess bravado.

He still should have answered that last question though.

His only real slip up.

Not sure word for word, but he was basically asked did Trump lose the election in 2020. He waffled on his answer, or simply avoided a direct answer.

What none of them will say is that we need to cut spending and increase tax revenue. Instead, they just promise more and more handouts.

Right now, every adult tax payer's share of the federal debt is about $215,873. Time to stop the bleeding.

Not sure word for word, but he was basically asked did Trump lose the election in 2020. He waffled on his answer, or simply avoided a direct answer.

He indicated there were legitimate questions about the '20 election outcome (which is true), pushed back against the talking point that Trump is the only candidate to ever question a presidential election outcome while reminding everyone about Hillary's false objection that the '16 election was stolen because of Trump/Russian collusion, and then wisely pivoted to point out that it's a waste to dwell on the past when there are so many serious problems to correct going forward thanks to Harris/Biden. I don't think he fumbled the question at all.

It was an acceptable answer for Trump advocates, but for the Independent voter or undecideds, it would seem like he avoided a direct question. A small difference I understand, but yet a difference.

It would've been both dumb and likely devastating to say or even strongly imply that there's no doubt Biden legitimately won in 2020 and therefore Trump is and has been full of crap on that point. Another thing Vance did do was point out the bottom line that power did peacefully transfer in January, 2021 and democracy didn't end. The average voter that is feeling the negative impact of all the problems the current regime has imposed on the country through their policies doesn't think about or care a wit about Jan. 6th and Vance was smart to deal with what was designed to be a "gotcha question" the way he did.

Not a single non-partisan person cares about the Jan 6th riot.

This despite the millions of dollars spent on lawfare, impeachment, congressional hearings, television producers assembling evidence, and television ads.

I disagree. And that's why Trump loses. There's a sizable enough Republican voter who says "he'll no" to Trump because of 1/6.

How I wished but it is unlikely to happen. Remember Bush 41's "read my lips, no new taxes". I'm afraid our campaigns these days lack any real elements of our economy.

Anyone who would consider voting for Trump wants different questions answered.

Anyone who would obsess on that question is a NeverTrumper already, so Vance was wise not to take the bait.

All the vice president has to do is hope the president doesn't die. Harris did the job. It just doesn't take a whole lot more than a pulse to be vice president.

That's a strong statement. Why do you believe he is a Communist? I admit I've not followed him nor have any interest in him. From my distance he would be disturbing if he should become President by accident.
