They need to submit their resignations January 21, 2025. Don't pull a Scalia or Ginsburg and wait too long and risk the court to be flipped.

Alito is 74. That makes them 80 and 78 in 28.

Honestly, I think they can wait a year or two. We have a majority in the Senate for at least 2 years.

Thomas and Alito are both excellent justices. It would be a shame to have them retire so quickly. They should certainly space it out, rather than make it look ridiculously political by both retiring on Trump's first day in office.

I think Thomas could announce after the next session... so sometime in May or June of 2025. Then Alito could do the same thing in May or June of 2026.

Even better would be for Roberts to retire soon. He has been a HUGE disappointment. Get rid of him, and let Trump promote Gorsuch or Amy to the Chief Justice position. Imagine if Trump appointed the first female chief justice.... the libs would go ballistic!

This was a rarely talked about, but major reason it was important to vote for Trump. I would like to see both retire and be replaced with a couple of 40 year old strict constitutionalists.

...Of course, the left will find out that one of them farted in math class in high school then demand 10 months of hearings, but the end result is all that matters.

I think this election shows a significantly diminished trust of the mainstream media with a large segment (perhaps majority) of the population. Their credibility is shot, so it's going to be harder for the dems and their media allies to manufacture fake narratives such as russian collusion and brett kavanaugh is a rapist, etc.

I would sure hope so. The selective faux outrage of the left has become predictable and comical.

Thank God Merrick Garland will only sniff the Supreme Court in his dreams. What a worthless, partisan POS he turned out to be. Bye bye for him on 1/21/2025. Chris Wray too! Hopefully those two can be BFFs and fishing buddies!

Dang!
I had no idea how old that crazy ***** is. Maybe she won't have much longer on the bench. If Trump were to replace her... that would be epic!

You left out Donald Trump age: 78 years, 4 months and 24 days of age. He may not judge them as old.

This may be too late. Biden has to nominate her replacement and then it has to clear Congress. It could be done, but I think the timeline is too narrow.

It's also why I didn't include her in my OP. No way she retires until a democratic president now.

Roberts will be 73 in 28, so the 28 election could be another huge SCOTUS single issue vote with Sontomayor and Roberts getting up there in years.

He may not see it from an age POV, but it definitely needs to be seen from an opportunity point of view. I'm not sure Vance can win in 28. Get things lined up in the next three years. Wait much longer than 27 and risk the democrats playing the same game republicans played with Obama (if the legislative brand flips in 26). The iron is hot now. It could start cooling in 27.

It's too late for Sotomayor. Remember when Scalia died & Obama rushed through with his Garland pick but the GOP controlled the Senate & were able to delay the vote for months? (I think that's one reason Garland was became so evil & radicalized.) The GOP don't control the Senate but with inauguration only 2 months away, they could easily delay confirmation & Trump would be able to nominate a justice who will follow the constitution. Of course, we cannot be sure McConnell will act in the interests of the nation & the people…

When it comes to the Supreme Court and federal judges generally, no one deserves more credit than McConnell. He not only kept Garland off the court, but moved Trump's picks through the confirmation process at a historic pace. Trump deserves credit for listening to the Federalist Society and others to choose the right people and for sticking by Kavanaugh during the crazy liberal freakout.
