Zero chance. DeSantis won't tie his fortune to a Gaetz selection. Gaetz is lined up with a private sector job for a couple years and then will be quietly slotted into an Exec branch position not requiring confirmation.

Strangely, DeSantis is a big winner. He gets to replace Rubio with an ally and then help two more allies run for the two open HOR spots…….given the short election timeline his PAC $ will create heavy front runners for his preferred people.

Vance needs to shine bright over the next four years because DeSantis is sitting in plain view.
DeSantis v. Newsome would be the ultimate disparate choice election.

As an aside, the speed of the Gaetz withdrawal is a solid sign that Trump is listening closely to Vance.
That item (if true) is very encouraging.

I agree with you on Vance. He is a sharp political operator and has a better grasp of Congress than Trump. Trump needs to listen to him on Congress and maybe we can get the important stuff through.

However that a doesn't alter the realities of only 3 vote majorities in the house and senate.
I voted for DeSantis in the primary, voted Trump in the general. Didn't think he had a snowball's chance in hell to win.

Glad I was wrong as well.

Looking back at the most recent election, I wonder if DeSantis could've pulled off a win. Trump and his people at the RNC really had their game face on. They came to play and indeed they did.

Former Assistant State Attorney in Florida, and then Attorney General of Florida for 8 years. I am not sure that qualifies as DEI, but ok.

Former Assistant State Attorney in Florida, and then Attorney General of Florida for 8 years. I am not sure that qualifies as DEI, but ok.

That's exactly DEI. VP Harris was DEI having been an AG, Senator and VP and Jackson was DEI having been an Appellate Judge and Harvard law, easily a Florida AG is DEI.

What's not DEI is Kennedy at HHS and Oz at Medicare. They are qualified.
