You don't think the House and Senate should know if this guy was sleeping with and giving drugs to a 17 year old? Do you know what an attorney general is tasked with doing?

Total clowns.

I guess Israel pays a lot better than SA.

There's a whole bunch of guys like you on this forum that should get down on their knees and give thanks for the Warren court and NYT v. Sullivan.
historian

There are some, including on the Court, who want to revisit Sullivan. If needs a major overhaul. The first amendment does not give carte blanche for every petty & irresponsible form of abuse the fascists can invent.

It was cool. It implied to me at the time that she didn't like their lobbying influence. In the end, I didn't see why they were any worse than the rest of the lobbying outfits on the hill but something had really irked her. At least Trump didn't appoint her as ambassador to Saudi Arabia lol.

If we could wrap our heads around the concept of smaller government, greater individual freedom & moral responsibility, a true free market economy, the rule of law, and the rest of classical liberalism then we can conceptual these ideas as a means to an end.

We will never go back to a pre-industrial society in which the government gets most income from tariffs (& land sales), was a fraction of its current area and a smaller fraction of the current population, maintained only a token standing army & navy, had no foreign alliances (George Washington warned against them in his Farewell Address), did not have any modern technologies (nukes, internet, computers, airplanes, space travel, cell phones, TVs, etc), and did not take on all of the additional responsibilities.

Instead, we can devolve some of those responsibilities to the states or eliminate them completely; reduce or eliminate vast swaths of the federal bureaucracy that is bloated, inefficient, wasteful, tyrannical, & unconstitutional; dramatically cut spending to sane levels; reorganize our foreign relations in a way that is mutually beneficial without enriching corrupt oligarchs or starting new wars; protect our borders & citizens; and restore individual freedom by respecting the constitution.

I do not expect the income tax to be eliminated anytime soon. It would require a constitutional amendment and 75% of the states to ratify. Over 80% of the states have their own income taxes. But income taxes can be reformed and dramatically reduced. All the other changes can happen through piecemeal reforms.

Do I think this will happen? No, probably not. But serious reforms are essential for our survival. The disastrous Biden-Harris regime makes that clear with Bidenflation, $36 trillion national debt (& growing by a trillion every 100 days), invasion by illegals, trans insanity, a multitude of abuses by the climate cultists, & much much more.

Real reforms in the correct direction can have a positive impact and provide momentum for more change later. That's how America ended slavery, destroyed Jim Crow, & began eliminating the American Holocaust (abortion on demand). Positive change is possible.

Never forget that a lot of Senate Republicans wanted this absolute establishment boob to be Senate Leader

[Thune, the current whip, won 29 votes on the second round of voting against the former Whip Sen. John Cornyn, who received 24 votes. Sen. Rick Scott was eliminated after the first round after receiving the least votes. ]

There is still so much work to be done in reforming the GOP

Senators, including Cornyn, have an obligation to thoroughly vet ALL nominees for executive appointments, including Gaetz.
There have been some serious allegitns against Gaetz. He should have a chance to answer the charges in a public hearing.

The nonpartisan group is calling on the Senate to withhold confirmation hearings for Gaetz "until a full and transparent investigation is conducted into his possible role in the exploitation of young women and girls at the 'sex parties' he has admitted to attending."

"These parties reportedly included young women, some allegedly minors, who were paid to participate in sex acts," the letter reads. "It is further alleged that Mr. Gaetz did not merely attend these events but actively participated. Evidence suggests he sent payments through Venmo and Cash App to an associate, who then transferred funds to the women, labeling payments as 'tuition.'"

"Some on Mr. Gaetz's team argued that the prostitution fell outside U.S. jurisdiction because it took place on yachts in international waters, an excuse that does not stand up to moral, and perhaps, legal scrutiny," NCOSE adds.
Sealed testimony from three witnesses in the sex scandal case involving Joel Greenberg, a Gaetz ally and local Florida official, placed Gaetz at a "sex party" in 2017 that included illegal drugs and a nude underaged girl, according to reporting from NOTUS. Gaetz's team has dismissed the allegations.

"Congressman Gaetz has never participated in the activities reflected in the NOTUS reporting. If people said otherwise, they are either confused or lying.

Strictly speaking the USA was never a "mercantilist economy"

[Mercantilist economic practices in the United States ended with the American Revolution, which was a result of the colonists' revolt against British mercantilist policies]

We did practice certain aspects of it.

[USA was not strictly speaking a "mercantilist" economy under Lincoln, the United States during his presidency exhibited strong characteristics of mercantilism, particularly through his strong support for protectionist policies like high tariffs, which aimed to bolster domestic industries and national power at the expense of foreign competition, a key tenet of mercantilism]

Interesting enough we became a world power and the greatest manufacturing nation on earth in the last 19th and early 20th centuries under such policies

Leaving aside Gaetz (your personally hobby horse that you are obsessed with)

There are lot of other reasons to not like Cornyn and consider him a very bad representative of Texas Conservativism in the Senate.

Because I don't personally care about some Rep. from Florida

And I am inclined to give the Presidential winner of the popular vote and electoral vote the benefit of the doubt when he wishes to have a person take a role in his administration

You seem to think DC should move to block him and are really concerned about it

I'm not concerned about a Rep who resigned under a cloud of serious accusations. I'm concerned about the attorney general of the USA.

As a general proposition, the president should be given great latitude in whom he wishes to appoint. I've said nothing critical about any of Trump's appointments, other than Gaetz. I'm sure he wants the opportunity to clear his name. You sure are docile and trusting when it comes to executive appointments. A startling lack of curiosity

This sounds exactly like the hold up for the Kavanaugh confirmation hearings when they brought out that loon from california who couldn't remember specific details and had zero evidence and was refuted by friends but was sure kavanaugh had attacked her. The airtime and platform that lunatic was given should never happen again. The majority people are sick of it and don't believe it anymore. If the highly politicized FBI is involved, its even less credible. Patience has run out for this garbage. The people have spoken and its time to get to work.
