Your side failed to build highspeed rail in California (a one party controlled Leftist State)

You have total control of California

And yet the project is $100 billion over budget and no end point in sight.

It might never be finished at all
Anecdotal at best

No…factual

The most progressive State in the Union failed to build high speed rail

Many rejected the money because it was only for the Capital expenses. OMA is what was going to be the killer. It cannot sustain itself, which is why it hasn't taken off in the US. Everywhere else it is Govt subsidized, Germany, Denmark, Japan, SIngapore all have great rail, but the Govt pays for it.

High speed rail will never work because of so many factors. Cost, way too many small roads to cross that would need crossings or to be elevated, way too much wildlife, court fights over land, issue with routes. And that last one is the biggest. Especially between San Antonio and DFW. Every little area wants a stop (Austin, Killeen/Fort Hood, Waco) and then does it go to Dallas or Fort Worth or both or a third point in between.

Then wherever it goes in a city there is the issue of building it through the city. You just can't have a train going 100, 200+ mph going through a city, neighborhoods, etc. even if fenced off or elevated.

Years ago when the tans Texas corridor was proposed the stop for Waco was proposed to be west of Mcgregor. That is not in Waco. Not convenient and would drop you off in the middle of no where with no rental car place around.

I'm sure this project would hit all those same problems.

The amount of money necessary to acquire the land would be insane. To your point it also can't really terminate in Dallas or Ft Worth it would have to be on the outskirts somewhere but the outskirts of either city is 30 freaking miles.

You could probably take some of the land under imminent domain but that's wildly unpopular and would tie you up in court for eternity.

It's one of those ideas that's not terrible on the surface but the reality is that it's a non starter and never going to happen.

Yes exactly. The land would be hard to get, expensive and tie up courts for years when people fight the imminent domain.

And ending outside of any of the cities is not a valid option, especially when it means it would have to end outside of not just Fort Worth or Dallas but all the outlying cities as well until you get to one that has enough viable land nearby but then you would basically end up in somewhere like Alvarado, Weatherford, Denton, McKinney, waxachie or something like that.

Yep

People act like we are Germany and started building up our rail lines 140 years ago (plus had two world wars against enemies east and west so it became a national priority)

Texas and the USA are just not that kind of place

The other thing most don't realize is that the rail they are talking about is Intercity, not transit. It will not do anything for your commute. That is a different system.
