There is the argument that it might take short term pain to fix long standing issues, but the economy is objectively far worse off after these 100 days than at any time during the Biden Presidency.

And it will get worse soon, as drilling stops, truckers are laid off, and prices start to rise. If we even get back to the economy we had in January, this calendar year, I will be surprised.

At this point I'd almost rather Trump win. He is horrible, despicable, dumb, but Harris is even dumber. I cast a vote I believed in, so I did not participate in dumb and dumber for President, but I still don't even know what Harris thinks about most issues I care about. The clip of her being asked "what was 1 mistake your administration made the past 4 years, and what would you do differently as President?" And her answer was something like "well I think it is a strength to identify mistakes. Yes we made mistakes, we identified them, fixed them, and that is a real strength." Amazing.

I hate to say it, but of the 2 candidates, Trump is dumb instead of dumber. And god knows many media outlets are doing all they can including lying and misleading America, to keep him from a second term. He is still horrible, despicable, dumb, but in some way I'm pulling for him, because the other is somehow possibly worse. Hard to tell, but the comparisons of each's 4 year spans is pretty lopsided.

I generally liked the speech. He made a lot of promises, which I don't think he has any real control over, but whatever. The big sticking point to me is the Panama Canal. He talks about no war, but he also wants to take it back. I'm sure he's thinking of using diplomacy.

If he wants to be a unifier though, an adult needs to take his social media accounts away from him. Needs to be an age limit on those things.

It's just more of the same. I don't care for the fake outrage over Trump using executive orders to undo what Biden did with executive orders 4 years ago, but some of what Trump has tried is laughable. Trying to end the 14th Amendment? A pause on federal funding so vague nobody knew what it meant or what was shutting down? Renaming the Gulf? Investigations into all FBI agents who were assigned certain cases, even after assurances that nobody would be politically persecuted for working a case they were assigned?

We will see how it continues. I'm wondering what will happen to federal employees who take the buyout Trump doesn't have the power to give them. Mass suit? Just a mess.

I'm ok with a little mess, if it ends with a slimmer federal government still able to fulfill its obligations to its citizens, and less future debt, but boy, Donald Trump is not who I'd pick to restructure major agencies.

Porteroso said:

2.3.25
Big bank CEOs saying the aim is not to have long term tariffs, but to get together with Mexico and Canada and negotiate a deal before the majority of tariffs go into effect. One CEO said it should all be over in a few days.

Can't tell if it's hopeful thinking, him trying to buy time to sell some positions, or not.

What is certainly true, is tariffs will not benefit America all that much, long term, though they are way worse for Canada or Mexico. If the threat of tariffs results in new and better trade deals, a few days of a stock market drop is a small price to pay. Hoping that is the goal, and not endless trade wars with the rest of the world.

I've tried to keep asking myself "this seems dumb, but could it work?" Constantly. I am quite open to America becoming better, regardless of which tribe is in charge. You on the other hand, are as disconnected from reality as it gets.

I'm willing to give credit if there is a completely turnaround, but real damage has already been done. These things have massive inertia. It's very difficult for the world economy to just wake up one day and say "oh great, trade deals have been made, back to the great economy we had in January!" In just the American market, trillions have been lost. Retirees have had to make cuts, cancel vacations, businesses have already failed, tourism is down, inflation is still hanging on and possibly rising again soon, our relationship with allies has been damaged, the credibility of the federal government damaged, promises and treaties violated, I mean the list just goes on.

And how long before we get back to the economy Biden handed off? That's the thing the zealots don't get. It is worse right now, than when we had our elections. They don't accept facts like those. To them it's Trump heaven, the best first 100 days ever, when instead the markets tanked more than ever in anyone's first 100 days.

To add 1 more thing, we have to account for time and opportunity lost. Say Trump had put in place policy good for business like he did the first term. Where would the economy be right now?

If someone had to make cuts in their living style because the pantywaistd wall street brokers panicked, then they have a poor investment strategy and need to adjust their portfolio.

Bonds, real estate, interest bearing instruments, dividend accounts all counter swings in the stock market. 60 % income producing and 40% equities manages the income streams very well.

I would like for one person on this board to give one example of a person they know who had a financial crisis in the last 100 days that was caused by Tariffs. Lots of general panic thrown around but lets hear of real names and events. Until they are posted quit your pearl clutching and fear mongering.

It's not relevant to the first 100 days if it saves the country from the Biden fiasco. The country was in horrible shape whether you want to admit it or not.

Just like years ago we were told by Algore that the polar ice caps would completely melt.
So, you don't think that polar ice is melting? Huh... I guess he was only 1/2 right.
