Way past time to pass a bill or two.

You can't because none of this stuff would pass as law

Sad state of affairs that we can't get bipartisan support for something all Americans would want. Guess that doesn't help for the private country club memberships.

The government dictating pricing may not be legal. Bipartisan support or no.

Yeah it would not work.

And why are the resident conservatives wanting it? Do they no longer believe in capitalism?

I think, by and large, that EO will be wildly popular. Same when he capped insulin (which I also said i disagreed with on the same principle).

I love capitalism, I also recognize that there are some limitations.

My feelings on this are no different than they are on any EO. It's always fine when your guy does it…what happens when the other guy does it and you hate what he's doing?

U.S. and China Agree to Temporarily Slash Tariffs in Bid to Defuse Trade War
The 145 percent U.S. tariff on Chinese goods will come down to 30 percent under the deal.

Pharma stocks are going to crater this week. I would have preferred to see a blanket ban on pharma advertising.

It should be possible to pass much of Trump's agenda into law, especially since it has so much popular backing. Maybe the voters need to put more pressure on the cowards & hacks in Congress.

Price controls are a stupid idea. They always fail. Always. They generally result in making the problem worse through artificial shortages.

No, really we were much better off with the Dems in control of our federal goverment and the attempts of Joe Biden to bring millions of unvetted illegals into our country.

If a few thousand Americans were killed raped or robbed by said illegals every year; it represented only minor collatoral damages in comparison to our obligation to pay for the surplus populations of the rest of the world.

Besides those who could afford gated communities and / or private security were in relatively little danger; except of course of their car being hit by a drunk illegal with no insurance.

And Trump is a meanie. He deserves to have his head blown off on national television as proof our democracy works.

Democratic Party tomorrow
Democratic Party forever

Well ... if 35 years counts as "relatively new" (both AF1s entered service in 1990 -- same year I graduated BU. I mean, the SWC was still in existence until 1996) ... LOL. Yah, time flies. Literally, in this case.

Trust and 'what they want in return" issues aside (and both are definitely issues, as you noted) ... I'm just gonna refer to this highly illegal gift (foreign emoluments clause, anybody) as Spare Parts One.

Not to mention that nothing is "free." Costs for Boeing to develop the two new VC-25Bs already have gone from tha original fixed-price sum of $3.9 billion to $4.7 billion.

Imagine the cost of having to strip the "free" Qatari "gift" to the spars and rivets (or close to it) to EMP-proof the thing, incorporate an aerial refueling system, install a plethora of secure communication systems and numerous other requirements ...

That's gotta add several hundred million dollars more to the total cost of Air Force development -- likely pushing AF1 spend to more than $5B -- and this project likely won't be ready any sooner than the two VC-25Bs that Boeing already has under refurbishment. (I hear L3Harris is set to do the overhaul on the Qatari "gift," but can't confirm). Not to mention this thing apparently will get ZERO USE after 2028 (when Trump leaves office) and will end up as a very expensive museum piece down in Florida.

It's what fair-minded, conservative folks used to call a boondoggle. Kinda comical to watch/see what they're calling this now -- as there's detractors and defenders alike in GOP factions where you wouldn't ordinarily expect it (as if "ordinary" can be used to describe ANYTHING these days).

P.S: Calling it now. This thing never sees one single flight hour wheels-up under the call sign Air Force One. Unless they just decide to fly the thing without all the security/communications/refueling/electrical requirements -- and literally only slap Trump's preferred paint job on it. Which is all I think he really wants) ...

Just to be clear - though it still has issues - the gift is not to a person, but to the US government.

Yeah, not sure we should be taking gifts as a Nation.

Have we reached the point where we need Qatar to give us a plane? We don't have a replacement of equal or better quality?

I'll take their plane when they stop harboring terrorists. You can't/shouldn't do anything with them with a straight face while Hamas leaders are living on USAID money in their country.

I agree with you. We don't need their plane. I would rather see him use an old Air Force 1, than suck up to terrorists. Anti-Globalist until he is getting something he wants... That bothers me.

With $36 trillion in debt we need to be careful about every expenditure. So, yes, maybe we do need to consider it. I agree that we would be better off with an older airplane properly maintained than receiving a gift from a nation that harbors terrorists. Maybe a condition to the deal would be to turn in all Hamas officials to Israel for them to deal with as they see fit. Removing the leadership would go a long way towards eliminating Hamas altogether.

A better solution to our fiscal problems would be for Congress to balance the budget immediately (they can use the work of DOGE as a starting point) and then lock in all future surpluses towards reducing the debt until it's paid off.

We disagree. This is a penny-wise, pound-foolish situation. The US should not take gifts that could be viewed as bribes for future decisions. That means more than the savings that are a drop in the bucket. It is called integrity.
