It's not up to a political party to fix home and auto insurance. That's strictly math.

Disagree. Auto insurance is so high because of the uninsured. Government could do a lot to force people to buy insurance, or lose their car.

The government needs to stay out of everything they can stay out of. And it's already required to have insurance. Just like it's required to have a DL.

And auto insurance is so high because the cost of repair is insane right now. A side mirror can be $5,000 (yes that's a real number).

If the government is going to require some thing by law, they have to enforce it. It's ok if you dont want to require insurance for drivers, but makes no sense to have the government "require" insurance, then never enforce the requirement.

I believe this is a state thing. States have to have inspections, pull over uninspired cars, check insurance at inspection and also tag renewal.

It is enforced. You can't get a new DL, you can't get registration.

People go get SR22s and then let them lapse. And traffic enforcement does exactly what you're asking them to do.

Unless you want a system where you have to show your car auto insurance before it turns on there's nothing more the government can do.

You dont really need a side mirror. Just don't change lanes or backup. Simple

True…except no mirror then your adaptive cruise control doesn't work, your lane departure warning doesn't work and your dash board lights up like a Christmas tree…which is how you get to a $5,000 mirror replacement.

Government regulations are always a factor. And there are the indirect connections. For example, millions of illegal aliens on our highways probably result in more accidents which drive up costs for almost everyone. And there is inflation in general, almost always caused by govt.

That may make up 2% of the cost. Overall it is not the role of government to cure home and auto insurance prices and, overwhelmingly, they are not the cause of those rates.

I'm shocked by how many Republicans seem to be for more government around here.

Before I got my GED and went to college, I was down in Houston selling Encyclopedia Britannica off magazine leads. I was driving my old 1963 Chevy Van that had mirrors that locked into the window sills. Someone stole them and I was driving a van that did not have side windows, only back windows, all over Houston, just hoping there was no one beside me in the lane on either side of my van. I lucked out and didnt hit anybody, but it was scary as hell

My argument is not more govt but less. If the problem is not caused by govt then that's a rare cause for celebration. To the extent that it is, then the govt should get out of the way and allow the free market to work. The federal govt must be downsized as much as possible and it's told in society reduced.

Here's another argument about Obamacare premiums:

https://the-federalist.com/2025/10/08/no-obamacare-premiums-are-not-doubling/

The real problem is Obamacare and it has been since day one. It's like every other govt program: you pay more and get less. Bureaucratic rot makes everything inefficient and increasingly frustrating. And it always seems to be getting worse. But it does keep the bureaucrats employed and the corrupt politicians in power.

You realize of course that "insurrection" is not even a term defined by Federal law right?

[the term "insurrection" is not explicitly defined by federal law]

Yes, that's one of the reasons it's rarely charged.

And rightfully so

If it was…then partisan political hacks might try to charge a President and leader of the opposition with such a spurious claim

Or even try to put him in prison for a riot he did not order or command.
