Your second point makes no sense, as the informants would not be incarcerated. Your first point only shows how deportation mania is overriding more important concerns. Not only are informants valuable in themselves, but the DOJ's general credibility in cases not involving illegal aliens is also at stake.

Which makes no sense given Point #1. If they're on the street, they're gone.

Deportation is what you do to people who came here illegally. It's the law.

CIA does not sit on actionable intel about a terrorist act for fear of torching the source. It would be unconscionable to do so. Imagine the congressional hearing: "you allowed people to die in order to protect a source on terror groups trying to kill people?!?!" You do what you have to do to stop the act every time, source protection be damned. (that's why human source counter-terror operations are so incredibly difficult to sustain).

Same for foreign drug cartel operations. We should not allow known cartel illegal aliens to remain here under any circumstances. Taxpayers would be rightly outraged to learn that we were allowing drugs to flow on our streets just so we could report on drugs flowing on our streets. If we can find them, we deport them. That reduces the size of the cartel. FBI and local LE still have badges. They will still be able to use US citizens to report on drug cartel operations.
