Maybe more than you realize. There have already been numerous examples of massive fraud exposed in Minnesota, California, Ohio, and elsewhere. Most states and govt programs haven't even been investigated yet but we have plenty of reason to expect more revelations of fraud. For one thing, the Dems keep acting extremely guilty by continuing to cover up what is going on and trying to prevent any further exposure of the fraud (the Stop Nick Shirley Act in California, for example). All too often, the GOP has done of the same problems although they are amateurs in comparison.
Dems in Congress fight tooth and nail to maintain insane levels of funding for every stupid thing, regardless of usefulness, flunking the smell test, programs with history of fraud & abuse, and a national debt rapidly approaching $40 trillion. In fact they are acting like they are direct beneficiaries of those programs which begs the question: are they? Why do f set o many of them enter Congress poor and Scot millionaires? These are fair questions.
Most obvious, though, almost every govt program spends huge amounts of taxpayer money for something (disaster relief, homeless, education, highways, healthcare, etc) with little to show for it. They might not always be so obviously wasteful as California's railroad to nowhere, but most of them are similar. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck it's reasonable to conclude it's a duck. When it comes to govt corruption this is especially true.
In so many areas of our govt, they keep proving the genius of the Founding Fathers who created a republic ("if you can keep it" - Ben Franklin) with limited powers and accountability. Our politicians have been demolishing much of it ever since, especially the past 100+ years under the notoriously mislabeled doctrine of progressivism. Most of it is actually regressive since it's based partly on Marxist ideas.
I firmly believe every govt agency needs massive reform: budget freezes at the very least & cuts for most of them, ditto for staffing, reduction of their power over the American people & American businesses, elimination of all military forces & weaponry (no bureaucracy should have its own private army), and regular auditing. Any agency that fails an audit should be immediately shut down.
I have no illusions that any of this will happen since it would require Congress to show some courage and do their jobs representing the people. This brings us back to my original point of corruption, especially among the fascists who always resist anything that resembles common sense accountability (part of the smell test).
