There were angry reactions across Europe to Elon Musk's apparent use of a salute banned for its Nazi links in Germany, where some condemned it as malicious provocation or an outreach of solidarity to far-right groups.

Michel Friedman, a prominent German-French publicist and former deputy chair of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, described Musk's actions at an event after Donald Trump's swearing in as US president as a disgrace and said Musk had shown that a "dangerous point for the entire free world" had been reached.

LIQR, I know you to be a reasonable person. Tensions are high right now across the political spectrum and everyone is grasping to earn some political points. The ADL has defended him and if you look at the context of the entire speech, it's clear it wasn't a Nazi salute. It may have resembled the movements of a Nazi salute, but he was just wrapped up in the moment and awkwardly did a motion in excitement.

My son is autistic and he was also a valedictorian at his high school. When he walked across the stage, he gave a very similar (bit not identical) motion when the student body cheered for him because they were proud of what he had overcome to achieve that accomplishment. It was awkward because he is an awkward person due to his disability, but he is by no means anti-Semitic (his grandma is Jewish and he is always excited to participate in the lighting of the Menorah). But his motion was a pounding of the chest and extending his arm to the crowd. Not quite resembling the Nazi salute, but it definitely could have been misrepresented that one if someone had motive to do so.

All of this is to say, sometimes people make weird and awkward gestures when they are up on stage like that and get caught up in the moment. If Musk (or my son for that matter) had a long history of anti-semitism, I'd agree with you. But this is an isolated incident and the context wasn't even anything that could be assumed to be a reference to Nazis, he was thanking crowd from the bottom of his heart for their support in the election. Weird gesture with the flat hand facing down and an extended arm? Absolutely yes. But that doesn't make it a Nazi salute. You are better than this LIQR.

Elon has German heritage and comes from the most racist country on earth. He had made a lot of money selling electric cars among other things. He donated millions of $ to Trump. He also supported Obama. I think HRC but to tired to check. He has now been given a position in our gov. because he is rich and gives Trump lots of money.

I agree the salute was probably a spur of the moment thing. Germans have said he would be arrested if he did in Germany. A pretty good source said it was a Hitler salute. I have seen videos of white racists doing it.

I am waiting for some the guys here that know so much to try it a few times in public, especially around Jews. Maybe they wont be offended. But who cares. He has lots of money. Maybe he was just stemming from autism. But he did it twice. Hard to believe it was an accident.

Musk supported Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012, Hillary Clinton in 2016, Joe Biden in 2020, and Donald Trump in 2024.easy to confirm. Common knowledge Research his support of AfD

I can so identify with this. Have an autistic son who is currently on pace to be valedictorian as well, and this is exactly the kind of thing he would do. He's a sweet, innocent, but very socially awkward boy, and has done things such as this over the years that have confused people.

Elon is clearly on the spectrum. He's an awkward dude, but it's clear to anyone with a brain, and given his past behavior, that the last thing he is is a Nazi. Guy was thanking people "from his heart," and clearly that was what the gesture meant based on his comments.

Only issue I take with your post is the first sentence. LIQR used to be a reasonable person, but when it comes to Trump, he's so triggered he lacks reasoning ability.

A few things...

1) The South Africans fought against Nazi Germany in World War II, just FYI. That included Musk's grandfather. Approximately 12k South Africans died at the hands of the Third Reich.

2) As for "racist" countries, according to at least one source, SA doesn't even make the top ten. Of course, all of these are politically motivated sources, so take them for what they are worth.

https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/most-racist-countries

https://people.howstuffworks.com/most-racist-countries-in-the-world.htm

3) Do you have any evidence that Elon is actually racist or a Nazi sympathizer?

4) BTW, interesting that merely having German heritage makes one a potential Nazi sympathizer. Have lots of German blood in the family, who were among the first settlers in Fredericksburg. Have 2 German-blood great uncles who died in Europe, one in the Battle of the Bulge, and the other in Salerno. I guess they had to put their Nazi sympathies on hold when they gave their life fighting against the Nazis.

Curious that someone would condemn Musk for being a member of a particular group, German heritage or South African. That's exactly what the Nazis did: condemned Jews for being Jews. Other groups too: gypsies, Poles, Russians, Jehovah's Witnesses, etc. All these groups were murdered in large numbers during the Holocaust.

Just have to let political nature take its course.

I'm an Independent voter who leans right when it comes to fiscal matters, and if this kind of nonsense continues I will be voting for JD Vance, the presumptive nominee, in four years. Or whoever the Republican is.

I, like a lot of Americans, grew tired of this hyperbole, and the attacks. Most of which had (or have) no validity. No matter how the other side tries to spin it. And obviously there are Democrats who still don't get it.

And his has no validity either.

Oh, they'll push it as far as they can. And when the egg on their face becomes evident, they will just let the story go away.

And people like myself who are Independent voters, and those in the middle, will quietly go in and pull the lever for the Republican again in four years.

It is odd though that these people on the left who are so "concerned" about an assumed, or as the media puts it, "seeming" gesture (which tells you a lot right there), are okay with looking the other way on late term abortion.

The former is a "seeming" gesture, the latter is blatant and real in its outcome.

Comes within an inch of getting his brains blown out on national television but STAYED IN THE RACE. Wonder how many 'flim flam' billionaires would have said '**** this' and withdrawn from the game entirely.

Decades working with little kids saying 'yes sir' to whatever you say ? Years of your 'hobby' with 3rd world girls desperately attempting to escape poverty by hooking up with an old American guy ?

In reality most billionaires would never interrupt their luxurious lifestyles just to become a constant target of verbal and physical abuse.

Or getting their brains blown out.

They would simply stay within the safe confines of their exclusive country clubs.

So when Obama, HClinton, AOC, Pocahontas, Walz do this libtards don't care. But If Elon does it during a period of time he donates to Republicans then it's a problem? Oh ok.

Selling Bible's shoes golf tees cologne reality show fake college scam, selling government positions. Draft dodging while marching in parades. Constantly lieing. Surely America can do better.
I've never argued Trump is a good person. I have simply argued, as a conservative, he is a damn sight better than the incompetent and corrupt boob who almost train-wrecked the country the last 4 years.

But you don't understand such pragmatism.

It's the "Trump said all Mexicans are rapists!" type lie, all over again.
Our vibrations were getting nasty. But why? I was puzzled, frustrated... Had we deteriorated to the level of dumb beasts?

I understand such pragmatism and see where it leads.

I simply refuse to choose the lessor of two evils. If everyone demanded better candidates we would get better candidates.

If e everyone just swallow s hard and votes for the stronger of two weak candidates you see whzt happens..

Well, considering a protest vote hasn't resulted in better candidates in my lifetime, I would disagree, but that is certainly your prerogative.

Bottom line is your protest vote was more important than a Kamala Harris presidency. I think the last 4 years has proven that is an incredibly foolish position, but again, that's because I have strong conservative convictions. I wouldn't expect you to understand.

I understand. You choose the lesser of the two evils. Trump.and his cronies are not conservative. He and Elon and others were
Dems until they saw a weak republican party running candidates like McCain and Romney. So Trump changed parties and ran. Elon supported HzrC and Obama. He saw a way to buy a position in our giv and switched, donating millions to Trump
Trump swallowed.

Indeed, I realize Trump is a mixed bag, but as a conservative who is concerned by the direction of the country, I realize that Trump's policies are far better and less destructive than 1) what are essentially open borders and a totally failed immigration policy; 2) out of control inflation and cost of living; 3) woke policies focusing on race, gender, sexual orientation and gender identity in all aspects of govt. life, including the military; 4) condoning and supporting policies that allow for the mutilation of our children; 5) disastrous foreign policy blunders, such as a) a Fall of Saigon moment in Afghanistan; b) bellicose China; c) bellicose Iran; d) proxy war with a nuclear power in Russia; and 6) unconstitutionally mandating vaccinations under OSHA.

Any reasonable conservative would.
