I am currently in Germany and have seen a noticeable amount of muslims around. Its not overwhelmimg but they are here. I also saw some signs on the street giving a phone number where you can report "hate speech" and there was a big Antifa parade down the city center on Saturday afternoon. I think the Germans are just pretty far left and thats just how it is here.
I learned German from a text book and took a couple semesters at Baylor. My first time actually speaking German the guy chuckled and said to me in English "I admire your effort to learn but no one here speaks like that except college professors". Apparently all that time learning the definite and indefinite articles was mostly wasted lol.
I was lucky enough to grow up all over the world. I speak little bits of lots of languages. With the exception of France everyone I've ever tried to talk to in their language always thought it was great.
