My take on it goes back to Jimmy Carter dropping our support for the Shah of Iran. The US designated terrorist group Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), aka the Iranian Revolutionary Guards took over under Khomeni. From that spun several other terrorist groups, funded by the oil in that region. And beneath that, the world Islamization began.
