Most of it was improperly spent on the kind of stupid nonsense DOGE keeps exposing. Much of it was laundered and ended up in the private accounts of corrupt politicians & bureaucrats. I only hope these crusaders can expose it, the DoJ can prosecute & imprison the criminals, and maybe even reclaim a fixable chunk of what was stolen. Balancing the budget and reducing the national debt then became realistic prospects. Everyone benefits when the government is downsized, waste is eliminated, and the debt is reduced.

Great idea. But only after enough waste is eliminated to balance the budget. I would love to get a check but not if it means the govt increasing the debt. And only as a one time thing. After balancing the budget on a regular basis, the focus needs to be on reducing the debt by paying it down. The good news is that this will aid credit markets and stimulate economic growth through sound private investments, creating more jobs & more wealth. It will also make tax cuts more possible eventually.

I work as an accountant, specifically in Accounts Receivable, and one thing non-Accounting people just don't grasp is the vital need for solid accounting. That, and the fact that accountants love to figure out where money goes.
The people who steal never realize that they always leave evidence and a good-enough accountant can find the proof.
Also, in my experience anytime a company has a sloppy accounting system, there will be people who notice the mess and decide they can help themselves to free money.
That's why DOGE matters.
First, it's absolutely unacceptable not to have accountability for the federal budget.
Second, if you get smart enough people who care enough, they will find out where everything went, and you can make changes to make government BOTH leaner and more effective.
Third, there are a lot of people who have stolen money, thinking they would never be caught. These people, and it includes people in Congress and many agency executives, are absolutely freaking out. Find these people and squeeze them to expose everyone who has been part of this criminal behavior. From Teapot Dome to ABSCAM we have caught crooks before, there's no reason not to clean house now.
Catch em all, send enough to prison, and every good citizen of our nation will benefit.

No doubt some people over 100 are receiving Social Security payments. If they are still alive, these is their right. And one of the many flaws of the Social Security racket. (Rick Perry was correct in 2012 in calling it a Ponzi scheme).
The problem is those people no longer living who are still receiving checks, more accurately their families are illegally. When my Dad passed one of the first legal issues we dealt with is notifying Social Security & DoD that he had passed. We had to send copies of the death certificate. The issue is that there is large scale fraud, waste, and abuse in the government, and TDS is causing people to oppose rooting it out.
