Robots may be able to fill that gap. Apple could build that here. But we will see.

Automation is the only solution. Problem is we don't have the volume of engineers and technicians necessary to pull it off yet. The skill gap is the real time lag for execution. Maybe redirect the department of education to this function and include not just students, but adult job skill training.

Inflation dropping is absolutely great. As we know, inflation is normally realized 3-6 months after the impetus, so some credit of course goes to Biden. Much of it to Trump.

He might increase our cost of living by the most any President ever has in 88 days, but for now, it is a welcome reprieve.

Which is why you purchase 1 ounce Gold Eagles, half ounce Gold Eagles and 1 ounce Silver Eagles.

Higher vocational skills came about when China was the low labor cost country. We did not react trade-wise, or compete to get those vocational skills up. We were too busy telling everyone to go to college for a bachelor's degree to get a good job.

Actually, I am unconvinced that the labor (and materials) is still not cheaper in China. Otherwise, low level products like Litter Bot knockoffs wouldn't make sense being 1/3 the price.

You don't need vocational skills to do factory work

Whatever makes people feel good. It might not be $2/hr in a factory in China any more but it's damned sure not $20/hr with a union re-negotiating every 6 months.

Factory work is not skilled labor, it's mindless, repetitive labor. The UAW (as an example) wants you to believe it's skilled labor but it just isn't.

Thank you! That is what the DOE should do, look at future workforce needs and develop programs to meet them. If they did that, I would be all for their existence.

Problem I see is we created generations of well trained idiots. They know math, not can't think. I work with people everyday that blow me away in kath and tech skills but they have no idea how to get anything done. That is the piece I belief is in-born. The connect the dots is either there or not. We need more there!

This highly depends on the factory and its product. That's a pretty big blanket statement you just made. I think I'll take the word of Apple's CEO on this subject as to why it's harder to manufacture their electronics here.
Have been in many types of manufacturing plants over the years as a guest. One example - big vocational skill difference between the Varilght smart stage lighting plant and Clouds sandwiches.

I totally agree that baseline assembly is not a very skilled job despite what the UAW might tell you. But those jobs are being eliminated by automation. The ones that remain are highly technical, and require a different level of skill that we don't produce en masse domestically. No better example than the fact we produce less than 200,000 engineers per year at all levels (graduate, post graduate, etc.) while China produces 2 million.

The politicians will talk up auto manufacturing, but the manufacturing we want back in auto are parts like batteries and engines, not to mention other industries like semi conductors, pharmaceuticals, high end electronics, and even defense. The UAW can pound sand. They literally wanted in their last contract that the company could not automate and a shorter work week. There's a microcosm of why we can't get manufacturing back from a labor perspective.

just stupid and foolish. All you Trumpians want prices to increase. It is painfully simple. Tariffs are a tax on the consumer, period. Yall can rationalize any way you want. Bad for Mercans. He will blink again. He's getting a ton of heat.
First, don't call me stupid. I am a Baylor grad. Next, don't think for me. Nobody wants prices to increase.
I didn't call you stupid. Just cuz you are a BU grad as I am (undergrad) hardly makes one smart. I know lots of BU folks who are brilliant and plenty who are not.

Navarro is a loon and ex convict who went to jail for Trump, hence the loyalty. I have run factories in China in my corporate days and building high end electronics is difficult and they are prepared to do it obviously. It takes a certain skill set they possess. They work their asses off and are meticulous. You have to build the PCB's, PCBA's before you even start assembly. I have built cell phones there (Nokia, Ericsson , Motorola). Yes, I'm dating myself. We cannot currently meet the cost necessary to build that stuff yet. Robotics is the only way we come close to and we are very far away from that.
