I have studied the push by the Texas legislature for more and more wind and solar power as a percentage makeup of our Texas Grid since 2005. In Georgetown, back years ago the city council signed two long term contracts for electricity, one for wind and one for solar power. I ended up writing thirteen letters to the editor in the local paper over my disagreement with the policy. As they purchased twice the power we needed and the price of natural gas dropped due to the fracking technology, our city lost its rear end as we sold our excess power back into the grid.
I have written our State Representatives and Senators about Texas constant increase in wind and solar power as a base of our grid and about the problems due to the intermittency of both causing more and more unreliability of our grid over time. More and more experts are sounding the alarm about the negative consequences of our actions, so far to no avail.
