xThe Texas Education Agency is investigating more than 280 complaints of teachers who posted or shared "reprehensible and inappropriate" content about the assassination of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk.

Education Commissioner Mike Morath announced last week that the agency is reviewing such social media posts to see whether they could constitute a violation of the Educators' Code of Ethics. He has said that he will recommend the State Board for Educator Certification suspend those teachers' licenses, making them ineligible to teach in a Texas public school.

Dang, it sounds like a great start.

What she is, from what I can tell, is far down the conspiracy rabbit hole now days

Or worse…she is high IQ enough to know this kind of stuff sells on the internet and she is leaning into it for clicks and ad revenue.

But either way it's not a low IQ thing

Oh, and keep a really close eye on that RINO Utah Governor, Spencer Cox.

This is not someone who should be in a governor's mansion in a state like Utah, let alone anywhere near a 2028 Republican presidential ticket.

There is no "hate speech" exception to First Amendment protection.

Please focus on government action (teachers) vs private action (Kimmel)

Sounds like we are all speculating Kimmel was taken off the air because of govt. action. I've seen no evidence of that - other than pure speculation. Have you?

Tucker said that he and Charlie shared similar views on Israel, during his conversation with Megan Kelly right after his murder, and that he was being persecuted for it by wealthy donors.

So, while I understand Cruz is using quite a bit of hyperbole (not unlike Tucker does on a daily basis), the gist of what he's saying isn't necessarily wrong.

Found that story.

And I agree totally uncalled for and a violation of the first amendment imo. Kimmel is a POS, but if threats were truly made, then that's despicable.

Edit: BBC has a story that delves a little deeper. I'm not sure that any real threats were actually made according to the BBC story. Apparently one of the cable providers to a portion of the country canceled the airing and then the FCC chair went on a podcast and criticized Kimmel and said that ABC must behave responsibly with its FCC license. Might be a threat but it certainly wasn't ans overt as I think is being reported.

We will see. Not good to chill free speech, even when someone such as Kimmel spreads despicable lies. Let's not be the Biden admin.

I agree that would be bull***** Not as bad as when the Biden administration leaned on all social media companies to broadly squelch speech they disagreed with, but along the same lines.

I think Kimmel is and has always been a complete ass, but he and the 27 people who watch him should be happy to bounce right along as long as ABC is willing to pay for it.

Given the ratings for late night TV, if Stephen Colbert was losing that much money, I would not be surprised to find Kimmel was as well, and for ABC this is a soft landing. "Trump made us do it."
Mothra

Just listen to the FCC chairs comments on that podcast. He should be fired.

Can't criticize the Biden admin for squelching, free speech, which we know it clearly did, but then engage in the exact same conduct.

Edit: I leave open the possibility that ABC was looking to get rid of Kimmel, and this provided them the perfect cover. As you suggested, if Colbert was losing millions, Kimmel was too.

He isn't using hyperbole. He's lying. I'm sure there are a lof of Israeli citizens who are Jews who don't like Netanyahu and vote against him when given the opportunity. Are they antisemites as well?

Objecting to AIPAC, objecting to the foreign or domestic policy of the Israeli government, or not liking specific Israeli politicians does not make you an antisemite. That is getting very close to the way Democrats throw around the term racissssssssssssss.

It would be interesting to know if USAID money, or money from another government pot was underwriting the Kimmel/Colbert shows and with that taken away they became such big money losers that the networks eliminated them.

Your right wing buddies on this board fall within the description that Cruz describes. Hell, one of your buddies blames them for Jesus's death. That's one of the oldest antisemitic tropes in the book. Others on this board have tossed around conspiracies like Jews are responsible for Charlie Kirk assassination. At least two posters have done so. So whether you admit it or not, many of your ilk do indeed hold antisemitic views.

I certainly don't agree with you on a number of things regarding the Jews, but I wouldn't put you in that category. However, the suggestion that many on the right do not hold such views simply is not supported by the facts. We have several of them on this board.

No reason for the FCC chief to speak into that at all. Just let nature take its course. Trump's ego continues to cause him and his team to make unforced errors.

Is there a First Amendment exception to a professional code of ethics? This is not as clear cut as one might want it to be. People do get fired from government jobs for speech that is protected by the First Amendment. It's a challenging question. I wish I could discuss and debate it with Charlie Kirk.

They are repeating the same message in Germany, France and the other EU countries that Soros owns

They probably received their talking points from the top.

I give credit to the father for turning in his own son, even though he knows that his son will get the death penalty.
That guy knew that his son was behind help and is a danger to everyone.
Sad, but he did do the right thing in the end.

IIRC, his Dad was a 37 year veteran of law enforcement.

Thats absolutely what it is. Its a made up term that they can use to slander you if you question their power and why they control both our politcal parties. The only thing that repubs and dems can agree on with nearly 100% certainty is that we need to give more of our tax money to Israel.
