xThe Texas Education Agency is investigating more than 280 complaints of teachers who posted or shared "reprehensible and inappropriate" content about the assassination of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk.
Education Commissioner Mike Morath announced last week that the agency is reviewing such social media posts to see whether they could constitute a violation of the Educators' Code of Ethics. He has said that he will recommend the State Board for Educator Certification suspend those teachers' licenses, making them ineligible to teach in a Texas public school.
Dang, it sounds like a great start.
Step 2 - the Universities
There is no "hate speech" exception to First Amendment protection.
Please focus on government action (teachers) vs private action (Kimmel)
Sounds like we are all speculating Kimmel was taken off the air because of govt. action. I've seen no evidence of that - other than pure speculation. Have you?
Yes
ABC Pulls Jimmy Kimmel Off Air for Charlie Kirk Comments After F.C.C. Pressure
Mr. Kimmel faced criticism from the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission for remarks about the politics of the man who is accused of killing Mr. Kirk, the conservative activist.
Found that story.
And I agree totally uncalled for and a violation of the first amendment imo. Kimmel is a POS, but if threats were truly made, then that's despicable.
Edit: BBC has a story that delves a little deeper. I'm not sure that any threats were actually made according to the BBC story. Apparently one of the cable providers to a portion of the country canceled the airing and then the FTC chair went on a podcast and criticized Kimmel and said that ABC must behave responsibly with its FTC license. Might be a threat but it certainly wasn't overt and I've seen no reporting from abc confirming threats were actually made.
We will see.
I agree that would be bull***** Not as bad as when the Biden administration leaned on all social media companies to broadly squelch speech they disagreed with, but along the same lines.
I think Kimmel is and has always been a complete ass, but he and the 27 people who watch him should be happy to bounce right along as long as ABC is willing to pay for it.
Given the ratings for late night TV, if Stephen Colbert was losing that much money, I would not be surprised to find Kimmel was as well, and for ABC this is a soft landing. "Trump made us do it."
