Amazing how people act like we'll be without water and power for a month ...

The funniest thing is morons filling up their cars with gas.

To be fair to some of them it is because last time I knew some people that had to go to their cars to charge phones or to get warm because they lived in older homes, poorly insulated homes, etc.

Also, your car's gas tank is a 15-40 gallon reserve tank that can be siphoned if you need gas for your generator if your power goes out for an extended period. Having a full tank is a smart safety measure. It's far from "moronic".

That's a normal Tuesday for us

Expecting a foot of snow. There is a salt shortage this year so road crews aren't going to salt. You can't clean 12-15" off in one pass so they are planning to shut down roads. I think the wording I saw yesterday was travel will be very difficult to impossible.

Now I've also seen this same sort of storm warning 900 other times and it amounted to nothing so you never know.

True. But also not a very easy to siphon a tank as many newer cars are made where it is harder to siphon gas.

Also, I remember last time there were gas stations that began to run out of gas because the supplier couldn't refill everyone fast enough having missed days. A store that usually gets it delivery on Tuesday now had to wait till next Tuesday or get a delivery at a different time.

Ahh, that's what the good ol' internet (youtube) is for. They show how to do it on newer cars. I can get to my fuel pump assembly pretty easily where I can hand pump gas out with no problem. If you have real know-how, you can disconnect your fuel line at the fuel filter, put the line in a container, and then manually start your fuel pump by using a jumper wire to bypass the fuel pump relay switch. Grease monkey stuff!

I was one of those.

My power was out for 5 days, so no heat. Never got above freezing.

I slept in a well insulated bed at night and it got cold enough that there was ice on the inside of the windows when I got up.

Most of those days were spent in my truck with the heater on because the roads were not safe too travel on.

I told my wife to make sure to fill her car up because we might need it.

Power outage may not happen, but it's far best to be prepared.

Man, I am jealous. That sounds fun. Right now, I can't even get out of the house without help.

I had hip replacement surgery in mid-December, and it went all kinds of wrong.

New hip dislocated when they took me off the Xray table, they put me
back under to relocate it, it didn't work, the stem went through my thigh,
they woke me back up told me I was going to have another major surgery in a couple of hours to
put a larger sturdier hip in since my bones were bigger than they expected.

The second surgery normally 1-hour procedure took over 3, they cracked my femur which they had to cable it together.
My normal15 pints of blood level went down to 7.7 pints, they never told me this but, in my mind, they darn
near could have killed me.

Instead of getting out the next day or at most 2 days after, they kept me in the Hospital and Physical therapy ward of the Hospital a total of 3 weeks!

I am walking with a walker right now and have in home rehab going, which they keep telling me I'm pushing hard and trying to get ahead of the curve, at the same time they are telling me I have to be patient and not try to overdo it. They are saying this will take months to heal and recover.

I hate it, but they keep telling me in a year this will be a distant memory. I look forward to that day!

But, for now I am land locked in the house. My blood level is STILL not up to my normal.

Hunkering down in Geronimo, TX , suburb of Seguin. 35 miles east of San Antonio. This go round we have a backup generator. Propane tank is full. Ironically, I sweated my ass off this evening cutting about two days worth of firewood in the pecan bottom. It is looking like this storm will be a popcorn fart for us but if it takes a bigger swath south, we will be ready!

Thankfully here in Arlington they are saying more like a 1/4 inch of ice a couple inches of sleet and maybe a dusting of snow at the end.

The biggest issue will be the cold.

You need to talk to a good med-mal attorney, pronto.

After the big snow we got a Generac and another 500 gallon propane tank. With the generator and around 700 gallons of fuel in the tanks, we should be good for 6 or 7 days of a power outage.
Texas wasted too many years on that wind turbine BS. These major storms are proving the stupidity of "wind power".

Good luck folks!
