I am not really a fan of going this far and then off ramping in any way where we give the Iranians money or drop sanctions, and let them keep their nuclear material.

Need to retrieve it or regime change for this war to not be a massive waste. Otherwise we will be back within the decade.

I hope you are right about sending them in. That is a rough haul. This is not Panama or Grenada. Iran has had decades to fortify.

Same pattern as those other jumps. Lots of planes from Hunter and Pope. Rangers first, 82 support. 12 sq miles is a lot of territory...

Time for Trump to show some diplomacy skills.

Their entire military is only about 3x the size of the Texas National Guard. Only about 40% of their fighter aircraft are combat capable.

The only Saudi pilots I saw fly weren't interested in landing.

The Saudis are 2nd only to Israel in the amount of influence they have in DC……involving affairs in the Middle East. Due to their oil reserves and wealth.

Have always read the Saudis have a well trained and equipped Air Force. Where have you read it is only 30% combat effective ?

I don't think the two are really that far off. They are well trained and the planes they had were well equipped, the numbers were not high. The ones I knew were flying more to keep wings, but were in administrative capacity. They just didn't have the numbers.

Well educated! The ones I knew at Dharan Air Base were all Cambridge, Oxford, Trinity undergrad and US masters. Funny, Oxford and Oklahoma State was a strange mix... Good guys, used to work out with them when I got to the Air Base. Locker room I had to use was marked "Infidels".

And the only conventional option left is ground forces, of which we have not nearly enough to make a difference.

Opinion: China is losing ports, power and presence in Latin America

More effort in Latin and South America, like Argentina would be good, instead of fighting Iran for Israel. Trump made progress there, that is a positive and in our backyard. Top marks.

The 2023 counter-offensive failed spectacularly, with Ukrainian forces unable to reach Russian defenses, much less penetrate them. The Kursk offensive was likewise repelled with massive loss of Ukrainian personnel and equipment. Sanctions against Russia have failed to cause economic or political collapse. And Russian forces have continued their slow advance through the Donbas and beyond. So yeah, pretty much.

  • Iran Does Not Accept Ceasefire, Issues 5 Conditions, Says US Talks Illogical. The statement says that talks are not viable in current conditions, oil rising. WSJ says talks 'not dead'.
  • 3,000 elite Army Airborne soldiers & Marines still en route after Trump said Monday says Iran has been destroyed "militarily".
  • Iran is tightening control of Hormuz, demanding detailed ship data and in some cases large fees for passage.

It's going to get ugly before it gets better. We have utterly failed so far to cause meaningful change.

If our goal is to follow Israel to war every 10 years, we could leave any time. If we want to remove a nuclear threat, and really damage their ballistic missile capability, we have a lot of dirty work to do. None of it was what voters wanted.

Of course, if they are able to show evidence that Iran is or was close to a nuclear weapon, really at any point in time, Republicans have a chance at midterms.

It's a lot of uncertainty, and we simply cannot trust what our government tells us. Swing voters hate that.
