What is the traffic currently going thru the straight? The straight is open but a tanker runs the risk of being attacked by Iranian pirates. Right? Why can't/won't the US eliminate the speedboat threat?

a couple hundred feet beneath bomb cratered bunkers.
Why wouldn't they accept a 20B deal when they accepted a 1B deal?
Because they are not going to give up their enriched uranium OR their enrichment program.
If they are beaten and have no armed forces, why the blockade outside of the Straits?
To force capitulation of the regime.
No military, why not occupy. There can be no resistance. right, we won.
No need to. We have militarily defeated them. We own the skies and seas around them.
We don't win until the Iranian government meets our demands to hand over the 60% uranium

By the way, if you need reference Iraq was a beaten Army. We took thousands of surrenders. They agreed to our terms, they didnt make demands. Iran is not beaten.
Agreed. That's why we are blockading them.

"Regime Change" is a dirty word.
That's probably what it's going to take to get this thing done.

Glad to see you admit it. I told you that a year ago.

Just one question...will this be before or after Russia collapses and Zelensky's victory parade rolls through the streets of Sevastopol?

There are numerous disagreements with your serious analyst, including the US Intelligence Agencies.

A couple of hundred feet below? Under collapsed rock or intact storage containers? Makes a difference

They already did it once before for 1B and Trump eded that agreement. Trump's Art of the Deal is 20B AND all the civilian grade they want. Shrewd.....

And why again is it so important? We had a no fly for Sadaam for years. We had Syria under control for years. Is this worth destroying the world economy and elevating Chinas status?

If we militarily defeated them, why the blockade? Just sail the tankers through? Actually send in our troops and get the uranium. Set up a military governor and be done with it? There is no military since we defeated them, right? Or how can they be militarily defeated if we can't send tankers thrugh the Straits without being attacked??? We also can't occupy because casualties will be too high. Seems counter to beaten militarily. Maybe you are using a metric that doesn't mean anything?

I am sorry, it just seems the War we "won" is creating a worse situation than before, elevating China, introducing new currencies into the Petro market and no nuclear material. I guess we did blow up a lot of stuff...

They were simply more prepared than us. We went in half cocked, no plan, let's follow Israel into war. Still another incredible thing to admit to.

I remember the backlash when Kerry said he would not go to war without first consulting the U.N. Now we are following a foreign actor into wars that were not even our idea, or in our hemisphere.

Whiterock is a pure fantasy poster. In the very best case scenario, sure, we get everything we want. But this is the real world, and all Iran has to do is wait for the 60 day timer.

We have not defeated the Iranian military in any way shape or form. We do not control the Strait at all. To think we do is pure fantasy.

well , Queen Scott, we have serious shortages in Thailand. All of SE Asia really struggling with the war, hence the shortage and price. When you say "we" you must be referring to Thailand.

As of early 2026, the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) is undergoing significant volatility, holding roughly 409415 million barrels, but facing a planned 172-million-barrel release following 20242025 replenishment efforts. The reserve remains near historic lows since the 2021-2022 drawdowns, with replenishment slowed by delayed returns from companies.

Key Status Updates (20242026):
Inventory Levels: Stockpiles were roughly 394397 million barrels at the end of 2024, rising slightly to approximately 411415 million barrels by early 2026.
Replenishment & Sales (2024-2025): The Biden-Harris administration purchased millions of barrels to replenish the reserve throughout 2024, with deliveries extending into 2025.
2026 Developments: Following 20242025, the U.S. initiated an emergency release of 172 million barrels in early 2026, with plans to refill 200 million barrels later.
Repairs & Sales: The Northeast Gasoline Supply Reserve was liquidated in 2024, and the Department of Energy is currently recompetiting management contracts for the main reserve.
Current Capacity: The SPR has a total storage capacity of 714 million barrels, meaning it is currently filled to roughly 57-58% of capacity as of early 2026.

what I said specifically was we in Thailand as that is where I mostly live. My point was the is a huge global problem and getting worse. What did Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia and many other smaller countries do to anyone to be put in this position. Trump has no clue , but has causing geopolitical issues all over the world. As for as the SPR is concerned, I sell oil to Cushing and know a lot folks high up there and they said it is a problem to be sure. Biden drained it too for the same reason to be fair.

"Gasoline prices are expected to turn higher in the next week as oil holds above $100 per barrel amid uncertainty over the US-Iran war.

The national average rose to $4.11 per gallon on Monday, up about $0.07 from a week ago, according to AAA data. The move higher comes as talks between the US and Iran appear to be at a standstill, while shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil route, remains at minimal levels.

Governments abroad have been aggressively drawing down their strategic petroleum reserves to low levels.
"We cannot draw inventories forever," Andy Lipow, president of Lipow Oil Associates, said in a note on Monday morning. "While oil inventories in the USA are currently adequate, as the world turns to the USA for supply, our inventories drop and in the worst case reach minimum operating levels in a few months."

Nevermind that we were supposed to have destroyed Iran's nuclear capacity in June, you keep skipping it.
We did bring their program to a screeching halt in June. We collapsed the underground facilities in which enrichment occurred, destroying most if not effectively all of their enrichment equipment. All they had to do was walk away from the crater and it would be all over.
So, you admit that June did not do what you and Trump said?
It did exactly what Trump said - it terminated Iranian enrichment and made it difficult and prohibitively expensive for them to continue.
IF that is the case, then the equation changes on the nuclear front.
Not if they start cleaning out the tunnels to start salvaging their operation to rebuild it. (Which sat imagery clearly indicated they were doing).
So, did the June bombing, you remember the most perfectly executed bombing campaign in the history of aviation? The one that obliterated Iran's nuclear capacity. The one that would prevent us from having to go to war with Iran.
It did. And now it is clear Iran was attempting to restart it. Not from scratch. But with the head start of experience, some small level of equipment, and 10-12 weapons worth of enriched uranium. Would take them longer to reacquire centrifuges than to actually do the processing. At that point, does it matter how many years/months away they might be? Have they not stated intent? Have we not stated (via 5 President's prior to this one) that we will never allow them to have nuclear weapons? Why leave, let them rebuild it a few inches from the goal line. Why not finish the job once & for all? When you find a rattlesnake in your yard, do you let it be? take it out to the country & release it? Or do you chop its head off with a hoe and throw it in the trash? your grandkids visit often, remember.....
The one that would FORCE them to the table as it is their only option. Remember? Did it do what you and Trump said? If not, why aren't we being told, so the rest of this makes sense.
Pretty much anything other than a jihadist death cult would have sought the negotiating table. The fact that they didn't and started digging out was a major factor in our choice to escalate.

You can't keep saying the same things for every Trump event as a great success and then have us watch them up the ante 4 months later and not ask why?
Oh the irony of you making such a statement.

So several other questions.

Why is Trump investing in bonds?
He's not. His kids are.
Why would he not? They generate income, and if properly purchase can appreciate in value.
You have bonds in your portfolio too....(you crook!)

Tell us about the petro-dollar and what is happening there.
You must not be following the news. BRICS is dead, buddy.

Who has the world's largest economy now?
Us.
China almost drew even with us but is now fading back.

Who is the world's biggest creditor nation?
In dollar terms, it would normally be expected to be the world's largest economy.
In debt to equity ratio, the US and China are equal, high upon but not atop the list.

Finally, how have these policies helped when it seems to be creating the very environment they were supposed to prevent.
You have arrived at a nonsensical point which only makes sense to you

And finally, just because I am questioning what seems to be a questionable strategy that is undermining the very foundation of our economy doesn't mean I wish anyone ill will. Just do their jobs.

There is nothing remotely questionable about using bombardment and blockade to force an opponent into accepting your demands. It's one of the oldest and most effective strategies of all time. It's a shame we forgot about it to pursue all that nation-building you say makes everyone love us, because we all know that the worst thing that could possibly happen is that someone might fear us more than love us so we must avoid that at all cost (no matter how ineffective such might be at achieving things of national interest).

The June 2025 bombing was a logical incremental step. We smash their stuff and gave them a chance to walk away unscathed. But they refused to take the open door. So now we have to grind them into dust. As a result, they are now in such dire straits that they are flaring their oil/gas to prevent damage to their production. Desperation. Not sustainable.

I would criticize Trump for a couple of things. There should be no cease fire. We should be droning the IRGC mercilessly. Would hasten things along significantly. I'd also take all the oil in every tanker seized and put it in our strategic reserve, to offset the cost of what we are having to do to Iran. (that's right, make Iran pay for the actions necessary to stop their pursuit of nuclear weapons).

And what is done with what is left? You can only bomb so much. There are diminishing returns to bombing, we saw that in every "action" since WW2.

One of the facts is that when we leave, they will come back. Like they did in Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Africa.

This does not change the board, it buys some time. What is the endgame? Don't give us some BS about a Democratic Iran just waiting to take over. CIA believes that everywhere and outside of Warsaw Pact Europe, it does not happen. It only happened there because they were occupied and saw themselves as Western democracies all the time. Iran is NOT Poland.

UNLESS, we occupy? Are you saying we occupy? Iran is the size of Western Europe. What is the end game?

UAE leaves OPEC in major blow to global oil producers' group

DUBAI, April 28 (Reuters) - The United Arab Emirates said on Tuesday it was quitting OPEC, dealing a heavy
blow to the oil producers' group as an unprecedented energy crisis triggered by the Iran war exposes discord among Gulf nations.

The loss of the UAE, a longstanding OPEC member, could weaken the group, which has usually sought to show a united front despite internal disagreements over geopolitics and production quotas.

UAE Energy Minister Suhail Mohamed al-Mazrouei told Reuters the decision was taken after a careful look at the regional power's energy strategies.

Bloomberg:

Trump Tells Aides to Prep for Lengthy Hormuz Blockade, Report Says
(Bloomberg) -- President Donald Trump told his aides to prepare for an extended US Naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, the Wall Street Journal reported, as the US looks to intensify economic pressure on Iran as the war enters its third month.

The president, in meetings with top aides, decided to continue putting pressure on Iran's ability to export oil by stopping any vessel heading to or from the Islamic Republic's ports, the newspaper reported on Tuesday night. Trump determined that was a less risky option than resuming bombing or extracting the US from the conflict entirely, the outlet said.

The decision suggests that the US could be moving into a lengthy period with the fighting largely halted, but no durable resolution to the conflict, and the status of traffic through the Strait of Hormuz still uncertain.
The US has been blocking ships going to and from Iranian ports to try to squeeze the country of oil revenue, while Iran keeps the strait closed to almost all other traffic.

Trump earlier Tuesday said Iran had asked the US to lift the naval blockade of the strait while the two sides negotiate an end to the two-month war, which has upended global energy supplies.

Unfortunately Joe Kent is right.

This just includes the direct economic pain from high gas prices up front.

Doesn't even begin to address the issues we're going to have with food supplies in another year.

Joe is pathologically wrong. The war is a net benefit to us, short and long term, on so many levels. It broke OPEC, fer crissakes.

Trump is slowly but surely transforming into a cartoon character. Self-inflicted. Very few people believed we would spend twenty years in Afghanistan, but we did.
Call it a tax, the people are outraged! Call it a tariff, the people get out their checkbooks and wave their American flags!!!

I have seen plenty of people saying the exact opposite. And not just Trump supporters. One of the key things they point to is Iran's inability to move oil and that they will run out of storage capacity in country. Which means shutting wells down and the huge problems that come with that and then trying to restart them later.
