Interesting point….

Does he mean the "status quo" in which white people are routinely centered and expect not to be resented for it?

Well in the EU and USA white people are fact the majority

Are we supposed to accept the idea that Han should not be centered in China or ethnic Japanese centered in Japan?

If you moved to Nigeria would it be reasonable for you to be resentful that Black people are centered in a Black majority nation?

Less than 0.1% of Nigerians are white. 42% of Americans are non-white. When they hit the magic 50% mark, will it be okay for non-whites to be centered? When they hit 51%, should whites begin to be marginalized? These are the absurd debates you get into when you obsess over skin color as the defining characteristic….

Obsessing over skin color is exactly the reason "woke" liberalism is radical and toxic.

If white people become a minority tomorrow in America …will it then be ok to accurately depict the Odyssey & the Iliad with Greek (Europeans) actors or not?

And if Whites are the majority in America is it wrong or right to do so?

The Left is the party that is obsessed with this kind of thing and forces us all into this kind of strange debate.

Of course it's okay to cast white actors. It's nothing to get up in arms about one way or the other.

You will not only eat your DEI sandwich, but you will like it too!

It is unfortunate a black woman is chose for the role. I was really looking forward to this movie.

Well since you're so incensed over this how come you aren't pissed that he's not showing how Helen came into the world? You do know Helen was born from a magical egg, after Zeus disguised himself as a swan and mated with Leda, the Queen of Sparta, and she laid an egg from which Helen was hatched, right? You sound incredibly dumb.

Well actually the Trojan war was a real event…

Now the mythos around that war and the people who fought it is obviously story telling.

But what is the point again of casting non-Greek looking actors in a Greek story?

At best its a strange choice that hurts the story telling itself…"world creation" and all that jazz…since the whole point is to get the audience to buy in and lose themselves in the epic & story.

Not constantly having to question the casting decisions

Getting the audience to lose themselves is part of the point, not necessarily all of it. At worst the casting is a strange choice and a politically motivated distraction. At best it could help the story work on more than one level.

I don't understand the uproar before the movie is released. Hollywood has been casting characters (especially fictional ones) across multiple races for years. (Red from Shawshank comes to mind).

Taylor in Cleopatra is another one. This is druggie Elon Musk driven.

Jesus also comes to mind. He's mostly likely not white and no way has has six pack abs.

You sort of keep ignoring what folks have posting and just keep doing the cut and paste job ... but I will entertain your silliness with a serious response:
- I think you need to understand the difference between casting fictional characters and non-fictional characters
- Before five years ago, Hollywood attempted to make actors resemble what their historical counterparts would have looked like - Taylor looked more like Cleopatra than Will Smith's bald wife; that's why it is called acting and there is costuming; but no one is going to believe Helen of Troy was blek or this chick has a "face that launched a thousand ships"
- The Jesus example is an immature distraction; cultures across the world depict Jesus in a way that resonates with the local people so as to provide comfort and peace; no one thinks Jesus literally was an American, but it is ironic the amount of butthurt LWNJ Christians spend on "white Jesus"

I could ask you another simple question you likely would avoid: would you be upset personally and do you think there would be outrage if Sydney Sweeney was cast as Rosa Parks in a biopic? Do you think you and Hamas Harry would defend the casting or condemn it?

At the end of the day, the eye-rolling is just the stupid Didn't Earn It virtue signaling in a world were black people make up 12% of the population but we have to pretend bleks were in Victorian England, bleks were in the War of the Roses, bleks were Norse fighters ... no one is making a movie about Africans selling Africans into slavery starring Ryan Gosling as a slave sold to the British by Will Smith.

There were blacks Vikings as the Vikings were travelers and enlsavers. They gathered people and things along their path.

Not all things are for all people. This might not be for you. It's doing nothing for me. I'll watch Shawshank again. I'll get mad at Red for you.

So I saw Mandalorian and Groku movie this weekend and they had like a 5 minute preview of the odyssey before the show. In the preview they featured Matt Damon (a lot) and Tom Holland. Not once did I see the Helen of Troy or the Achilles character. Maybe they have sensed the backlash or maybe those characters are playing a very minor role. I don't know. Lots of CGI and action....it looks good. Lots of stars in it.

It looks like film made for the big screen. I'm favoring actually seeing it at the theater. It may a good movie with a dash of wokeness. I can deal with that.

Here's my Star Wats experience. I'm 60. Dallas to LA business class about three years ago. NEVEr saw StarWars.

We're delayed so I turn on the first movie. (Number 3 I guess it is) and I watch it while on the ground delayed. We finally take off.

I start the second one. (4 I think) we go out about 1 1/2 hours. They announce we have engine problems. We're going back to Dallas. I watched it. Land in Dallas. We take off finally. I watch the last one. My belief? It was Independence Day. Not seen anything since.

Nope. The thing about Homer's works is not just some generic message, but includes a real history and culture in which this is set.

This trend of altering history or abandoning it completely has been used to sell false historical claims before, and taking away the foundation of the legend. Shewt, even fiction needs its base. Look what happened to the Star Wars movies when core lore was altered by directors who wanted to replace it with their own imagination.

Nothing wrong with writing your own story, but use your own foundation and lore. Destroying the past so you can replace it with your story is always wrong on several levels.

That's really the key point - the Didn't Earn It cannot and liberal Hollywood does not think they're worth the time to generate original content for these groups, so they just drop them in to old stories to check the box and hop in the limo to the cocktail party and talk about how they're "anti-racist." It's just so cynical.

You know that Cleopatra was ethnically Greek right?

[Cleopatra was primarily of Macedonian Greek descent, tracing her lineage to Ptolemy I Soter, one of Alexander the Great's generals who founded the Ptolemaic dynasty in 323 BCE. While her cultural identity was firmly Hellenistic (Greek), her family tree also included some Persian and Sogdian ancestors, with little to no native Egyptian blood]

It's a much more minor stretch for a generic NW European to play Cleopatra who was ethnically Greek (S. European)

PS

And Jesus was Mediterranean-Levantine…so unless you don't think people from the Mediterranean basin are white then…yea he would be described as such

I mean I assume you have met Jewish people and Lebanese people on the street and don't refer to them as African or Asian right?

As usual you avoid the direct questions for the straw man, but not surprising. You're having a circle jerk with the same idiot that claims there was a genocide in Gaza but cannot explain why the population has increased since 10/7.

Would you support Sydney Sweeney playing Rosa Parks? Do you think there would be any outrage? Do you think there would be outrage if Ryan Gossling played an African slave sold to a British captain played by Will Smith?

I love the logic that since there are Albino black people then all Nigerians should be portrayed as white. LOL.

If Sydney Sweeney playing Rosa Parks drew people into the theatre, it would happen.

.

The fact that she was not cast as Helen of Troy is a good example of your statement being wrong

Yep….and real Greeks are understandable upset

I don't understand the uproar before the movie is released. Hollywood has been casting characters (especially fictional ones) across multiple races for years. (Red from Shawshank comes to mind).

Taylor in Cleopatra is another one. This is druggie Elon Musk driven.

Jesus also comes to mind. He's mostly likely not white and no way has has six pack abs.

Patrick Stewart played Othello in an otherwise all-black cast. Who's to say whether Sydney Sweeney would make a good Rosa Parks?
