On Monday, White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said that US President Joe Biden supports "a whole-of-government effort" to discover how Covid began.

"We're just not there [at consensus] yet," he said. "If we have something that is ready to be briefed to the American people and the Congress, we will do that."

Fauci did commit crimes, but he won't be prosecuted. Here's why:

There are basically three camps here - the pro-Fauci folks who like increasing state control and want to protect government employees who help them do this, the anti-Fauci folks currently in power, and people who don't really care about the guy.

The state control crowd, and this includes some Republicans, will not go after a guy who does what they like, and the people who hate Fauci will not go after him because a) he might be able to look like a victim, b) the process is long and slow and they'd rather make an emotional argument about 'bad Democrats' than risk a trial which they might lose, and c) if they were serious about Fauci his time in front of Congress would have been last year.

And the people who don't care, don't want government wasting time and resources on Fauci when there are other things they do want addressed.

0% chance. Congress can only approve a contempt citation, the full chamber still has to vote on the citation and then he would still need to be convicted through the DOJ. Though theoretically this DOJ might pursue him, the precedent set would not be something anyone who makes DC their career is actually interested in.

Eric Holder did no jail time for Fast and Furious, which was a much cleaner case if you dig into it.

Nothing will come of this. Its just good show for the republicans ahead of the midterms.
