Do we need a DEI program at the University of Texas to ensure more whites are getting accepted?

No…we need to get away from DEI style racial discrimination

And have actual neutral standards based meritocracy for the USA to survive long term. In admissions, Jobs's, and everywhere else

If in a fair admissions system at UT-Austin if certain groups become over represented (say Asians) then so be it.

But if we are going to continue down the path of DEI (and Baylor and most other universities seem determined to continue this toxic idea). Then yes….Whites would have to organize and start seeing themselves as a group and demanding DEI style policies to help/protect themselves from discrimination

The classic "showing up to a gunfight w/ a knife" scenario.

No one else is going to play by these rules but Americans are expected to.

Life never has been nor ever will be a meritocracy but gullible fools love these fantasy, utopian ideas.

Then you are for race-based or ethnically-based quotas?

I'm for deportations.

Universities are becoming increasingly brown, and it appears white males want less and less to do with college.

This is a scary trend as college grads ultimately become the future CEOs and politicians, so we're going to lose our country if white male enrollment keeps dropping.

You believe CEOs have to be white men?

Very few people become CEOs. Owning a Plumbing company with 14 employees can be rewarding. Sometimes that looks way more fulfilling than middle management at IBM.

I believe Americans should run American companies. I also believe Americans should govern over Americans.

You have to be a US citizen to hold office. So what is your concern over the second prong there?

You guys throw the term "American" around very loosely. Clearly we're not talking about American citizens, rather the American PEOPLE

Heritage Americans.

You mean white Americans?

No, plenty of Heritage Americans.are black, Hispanic, Native American, etc. It's about the culture not the ethnicity.

Can an Indian be a heritage American, whatever that is? Can an Anglo whose family goes back generations not be a heritage American? Just confused about the test, because apparently hard-working, smart, family oriented students who love football fail the test.

If you argue against UT spots going to actual foreigners who are not going to stay in America, fine, I probably agree with you. State resources should not go to something that will not benefit the state.

But most of you are arguing that Americans should not be at UT because of their ethnicity, regardless of their intellectual merit.

God is ashamed of you. Your argument is racist and sickening. Period, end of story.

No...they are arguing that American citizenship should not be so easily sold that the demographics of entire States can't switch in a breathtaking short term. Not even a single lifetime.

PS

Westerners are the least racist people on earth....the most welcoming and the least ethno-nationalist

I mean you don't see Africans, East Asians, Israelis, Arabs, or Indians letting in millions of other peoples into their nations do you?

Blaming Texans or Americans for not wanting to be demographically replaced in a single lifetime...while not holding the rest of the world to this same standard is utter and horrible hypocrisy.

What a racist trope. First, you have no idea whether those specific kids are from India, Asia, or Lorena. Second, the more general idea that we are being swamped by Asians or Muslims has zero statistical support. While Asians are Texas's fastest-growing demographic, they comprise about 6% of the state's population, growing at an annual rate of 5-6% compared with an overall growth rate of about 1.5%. In other words, they constitute a small percentage of the population and will remain a minority. Third, America has always been about immigration. The same complaints you are making now were leveled against the Irish, the Italians, Eastern Europeans, and previous generations of Asians.

What really upsets you is not that they won't "assimilate," because they do assimilate. Going crazy at a college football game proves that point.

You and French are upset that so many of them are in the picture because they earned their way into a selective public school. If America is one thing, it is supposed to be a meritocracy.

Should we believe our lying eyes or whatever data you're going to throw at us. All you need to do is take a trip to Costco or HEB in Frisco or any mall in Collin or Denton county. I was at the Galleria over Christmas and hadnt been there in maybe 15 years. It was shocking how much I felt like a minority. It was liike I was literally in Mumbai.

Dont believe your lying eyes... believe our fake, made-up statistics instead!

Yes to both....

John Johnson (most likely not his born name). [ Records list him as a dark-complexioned porter in the 11th Regiment, U.S. Colored Heavy Artillery, 1864, who was born in "Hindoostan, India"]
Conjee Rustomjee Couhujee Bey: [educated in London and arrived in Brooklyn, NY in 1860. His obituary in the February 18, 1911 issue of the San Francisco Call identifies him as a Parsee who was born in Lahore in 1837. He was befriended by the famous pastor of Brooklyn's Plymouth Congregational Church, Rev. Henry Ward Beecher, who converted him to Christianity. He legally changed his name to Antonio Gomez. Gomez's letters to his mentor reveal many details about his life. He joined the Navy in 1863 and served for two years during the Civil War]
Chandra Lachman Singh: [came to the U.S. in 1911 from Guyana and was working in Chicago when he was inducted into the army in 1918. Returning to Chicago after the war, he purchased and managed residential properties in Lincoln Park and Hyde Park. ]

Good examples of people and their descendants who could easily identify as heritage Americans.

And I am sure we can find Anglos who fit the bill the opposite direction:

The Biden clan (rising all the way to the top of society reaching the Presidency of the USA) might be a good example of people who still seem to feel like outsiders and have reflective aversion to American patriotism. And I suspect when hearing Hunter Biden talk... still don't feel like Heritage Americans.

[Joe Biden's ancestors immigrated to America across different centuries and family lines, with his earliest recorded ancestor arriving by 1820]

And we can even see that at play with two Black Americans....Justice Clarence Thomas and Senator Raphael Warnock of GA

Both can trace their ancestors back to the 1870 post emancipation census. And both almost surely have ancestry going back much farther than that... into the deep past among American Black enslaved ancestors (mostly along Georgia-South Carolina coast). Both could very well have direct family going back the late 1600s or early 1700s

Pretty obvious Justice Thomas sees himself as a heritage American (and I don't think anyone would agree). I get the feeling Senator Warnock would bristle at the idea and not define himself as such.

I believe Americans should run American companies. I also believe Americans should govern over Americans.

We need a federal law (or constitutional amendment) requiring all government officials at all levels to be native born American citizens. It's insane to have foreign born judges who don't know our history, culture, or constitution making important decisions that affect us all.

This won't help us against Leftist hacks who know or care little about our history, culture, or constitution. Fixing that will require other reforms.

Agreed. We also need an immigration moratorium. We dont need ethnic enclaves pooping up in every suburb in every metro area in the state. John Cornyn and Abbot have taken millions of dollar to allow this to happen. We do not need millions of new arrivals every year. America has plenty of people here already.

Then why is the far-right so worried about the birth rate?

Everyone should be worried about the birth rate.

Its troubling that you think that is a "far- right" thing.

It should be a everyone thing....all political factions and all normal people should be worried about it.

Its not even just a developed country style problem...its a world problem.

[Global fertility rates have dropped from an average of 5 births per woman in 1950 to roughly 2.2 in recent years, falling below the replacement level of 2.1 in more than two-thirds of the world's countries. Over 70% of the world's population now lives in sub-replacement fertility societies. The drop is happening in both rich and poor countries, narrowing the fertility gap between nations.]

[The global fertility rate was 5 children per woman up to 1965. Since then, we have seen an unprecedented change. The number has halved to below 2.5 children per woman.
The decline of the fertility rate is one of the most fundamental social changes in human history. It is, therefore, especially surprising how rapidly this transition can occur.
This visualization shows the speed of the decline of fertility rates. It took Iran only 10 years for fertility to fall from more than 6 children per woman to fewer than 3 children per woman. China made this transition in 11 years before the introduction of the one-child policy.
The chart also shows that the transition to low fertility rates has become faster in countries over time.]

How long does it take for "culture" to settle in? You and I are much more culturally similar than either of us is with Musk.

Good question. I suppose it varies. It's clear that Musk has embraced American culture, especially entrepreneurialism and our love of liberty in general. I know of no one else in history who would gamble $44 billion of their own money primarily to promote free speech and against the fascists who were censoring many people. Granted, very few people ever had such a sum to gamble on anything but I don't know of anyone who has done anything remotely similar regardless of the numbers.

Anyone can be a Heritage American if they embrace our culture and assimilate.

As for the photo, you make multiple assumptions about the people depicted. We don't know how hard working, smart, or family oriented (your criteria) those few dozen are. It's impossible to tell just by looking at them. In fact, that looks a lot like a racial stereotype! lol

Seriously, though, even if each one of those students are accurately described as such, it does not mean they are Americans. Some might be on student visas. They might be moderately intelligent or lazy. We can only speculate on such things. Like all humans, they represent all facets of the human condition including the traits mentioned.

We don't even know how much they like football based upon one photo. It's safe to assume they enjoyed the one game and might even attend more. But it's also possible they will stop attending gif one reason or another.

More importantly, the point French made was not about this specific group of people. The photo merely provided the pretext for a comment (which might have been unwise). The larger point about the large number of immigrants from South Asia (& the Middle East) that gave come into Texas in a short time is concerning. The experiences of Texans in the Frisco, Houston, and other cities are real.

The Muslims are probably a bigger threat because they are part of a movement of conquest and push for sharia. Sharia has no place anywhere in the Texas, the US, or any western nation. It's incomparable. Hindus building huge statues to pagan gods represent the same cultural issue but in a different way.

Souls like the people who use the word "CIS" and "LatinX"

Naw....

"LatinX" is a progressive term bound up in modern gender ideology for "a genderless-neutral word used to describe people who have family roots or cultural identity in Latin America. To avoid the traditional masculine Latino and feminine Latina"

The other term is not about avoiding using masculine or feminine nouns and trying to rewrite Spanish language rules.

Its a debate about a term of American ethnicity/nationhood and its definition....its not rewriting any language rules and one can debate its boundaries and limits.

The debate about the term tied up in [if the United States is just a "propositional nation" bound by a set of legal rules or abstract ideals. Or if America is a distinct place with a shared cultural inheritance--historically rooted in "Anglo-Protestant" or "Western traditions", the English language, and the physical land.]

You do realize that you are agreeing with my main point? If anyone can be a "Heritage American," you cannot look at a photo and say those are not Heritage Americans--like Bo French and half the posters on this thread did.

Heritage Americans should be able to decide who gets to join their country.

Instead we have foreigners letting other foreigners in.

Its like if I broke into your home and then told you you now have to house 12 vagrants from skidrow.

It is nothing at all like that. Who votes to decide who is a Heritage American? This is really, really dumb.

OK, how did they get it so wrong?

I'm asking you..

I would guess that taking their cues from those above them in cultural power…constantly being obsessed with race, identity, grievances…that could not have helped them

Example being Baylor and its land acknowledgment grievance mongering and race-DEI-diversity narratives

The kids were taught this stuff

Constantly call up balkanization and the Balkans mentality will eventually answer

So in addition to blaming others for our misfortune, we're now blaming others for the fact that we're blaming others for our misfortune.

I'm asking a simple question of where the younger generation got their ideas about identify based politics and grievance from

Do you think the kids created this stuff ex nihilo?

Do you have any other ideas or contributions to that discussion?

I would suggest that xenophobia might not be entirely an invention of the left.

So we are admitting toxic narratives and ideas can be passed down to the kids?

Or are we "now blaming others for the fact that we're blaming others for our misfortune."

I'm sick of the response to every problem being "but but they did it fiiiirrsst!" It's one thing to deflect criticism by saying you're just following the left's playbook. It's another thing to actually believe it. I mean let's not get carried away here.

A lot of truth here. There are maybe a handful of boomers in my congregation, maybe 15% Gen X, maybe 35% Millenial, and the rest Gen Z and the kids of those last two groups.

If you go to a Boomer majority - or even a Gen X majority church - you have no idea what is coming.

There's zero truth whatsoever. I have it on good authority from SicEm R&P (including Whiterock) that the prospect of right-wing pogroms is a figment of my liberal imagination.

So can we please shut off the immigration tap and please have more - and more respect for - actual legacy Americans and policies that work for them?

That sounds almost like a moderate position. What I'm hearing is that moderation is on its way out.

Or maybe he means American citizens who are part of our culture, including first or second generation immigrants who have assimilated are Republicans.

FIFY

That's only accurate because American citizens that love America and respect our history and culture tend to reject the fascist or communist criminal enterprise that the Democrat party has become.

Which is it, by the way? You toss those terms around quite casually, but you must know that communists and fascists are historically opposed to each other.

Not always. Stalin and Hitler were allies and started the war in Europe together. They were rivals, just like each one hated all other groups with similar ideas but different leaders. The Nazis battled against socialists and communists, the Bolsheviks fought a civil war against the Menshiveks (socialists who were less radical). Hitler purged Roehm and the SA, Stalin purged many of the top Bolsheviks. It's like the Dems today: DSA commies vs old guard socialists.

We tend to get hung up on labels while not understand their meaning.

The fact remains that communists and fascists never coexisted for long, and certainly not within the same party. It's yet another reason to question whether you have proper definitions of the terms, or any real definitions at all.
