So it is an outrage to use a candidate's family in an ad?
That Acton chick is a certified fabulist loon - totally incompetent nut job. Proves women cannot handle pressure - she'll pull a Lindsey Clancy on Ohio.
Indeed, she is a leftist nut, but it's all about the feelings for voters nowdays.
That said, it was a poor political calculation by V.
The problem isn't her mom in the ad. It's THIS mom in an ad. She hasn't seen this woman (allegedly) since 1978. If it's my mom? I'm a dirty scoundrel. This woman? Yuk!
This is one of those "differences" none of us can relate to. Raped by our stepdad and mom standing by him.
I don't disagree that the ad was a mistake. My comment was directed generally toward those that put feelings over policy.
My "feeling" is that there is a baseline of human decency and integrity we should expect of elected officials. Both parties often fail that test, but it seems like the GOP has stopped caring about it. After decades as casting itself as the values party. to boot.
Let's not pretend the Democrats haven't cared about that for decades. And the problem is your party no longer has any sense of normal. It's expelled the normies in favor of radical leftists and socialists. That's the direction it's headed.
And that crowd has always been about tyranny and vilification. So it's a bit rich to complain of human decency.
Your double negative is showing.
I am a very normal person and a Democrat. Most of the Democrats I know are very normal people.
Contrary to that, I do not know one Democrat who has the sort of zealous allegiance to a politician that MAGA displays to Trump. Those people are abnormal. People who spend their lives obsessing about non-issues like the coming prominence of Sharia law, the epidemic of transitioning children, the swarms of non-citizens voting, the curse of vaccines, and on and on are abnormal.
And if you want to talk about policy, here is why I voted mostly for Democrats. I want a Congress that will act like the equal branch of government the Constitution calls for. The war in Iran is stupid and harmful, the failure to support Ukraine is stupid and harmful, Trump's tariffs are stupid and harmful, Trump's refusal to even consider the harm that AI, unregulated crypto, and climate change can do is stupid and harmful, the combination of tax cuts and drunken sailor spending is stupid and harmful, and Trump's lawfare is stupid and harmful. I could go on, but that is enough.
Frank, be intellectually honest for a moment. Your party has gone from treating self-described democratic socialists as fringe figures to elevating them to national prominence. Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Tlaib, and Zohran Mamdani aren't fringe voices. They're some of the most celebrated figures on the left. Mamdani is one of the most celebrated figures in your party.
And the pipeline isn't slowing down. In just this cycle, Democratic voters nominated or seriously advanced candidates such as Melat Kiros in Colorado, Chris Rabb in Pennsylvania, Claire Valdez in New York, Darializa Avila Chevalier in New York, and Donavan McKinney in Michigan, all associated with democratic-socialist politics.
So spare me the lecture about "normal" and "human decency." The Democratic Party of Bill Clinton believed in welfare reform, border enforcement, balanced budgets, and political pragmatism. Today's party increasingly celebrates activists, ideologues, and socialists while treating disagreement as a moral failing.
That's why I said the normies have been pushed out. The radicals weren't expelled. They got promoted
