Legalize drugs like heroin is an immediate death sentence for some? Or does it simply make the drugs go away because there is no profit in it for the cartels?
What are the consequences?

I don't know how many. It could be regulated from month to month. I am too lazy to do the research. For the third time visas would be used to control every type of transaction for non citizens. Did you miss the part about eliminating drug trade and all the problems with it? Huge benefit. Doing away with welfare for able bodied adults would benefit all working Americans. Cheap labor would carry all kinds of benefits.
I have found theres only two ways to go:
Living fast or dying slow.
I dont want to live forever.
But I will live while I'm here.

It's not a death sentence. Making heroin legal and free would have no impact on most Americans. I wouldn't use it if you offered me some It would reduce a lot of crime.

I agree. Do you think it would disappear off the streets?

No. There will always be those that are prone to drug abuse. It might grow a little for a while but it would stabilize. It would leave our jails to service real criminals.

I agree. But channel drug war money into rehabs and churches to bring meaning to life and heal deep hurts.

Frankly this is all a pipe dream .

You won't say 'how many' because in your mind there is no limit.

Let's stop with the games .

Unlimited 'visas' equates to open borders . Cartels would immediately corner the market on counterfeit visas . Just as exist counterfeit social security cards .

Millions upon millions would flood the US and the costs to the US taxpayers would be astronomical.

Crime would drastically increase... legal drugs like heroin would cause even more havoc . Open the border while legalizing hard drugs would be a gold mine to the cartels .

Welfare will never be terminated....or even drastically reduced . Whoever would be rejected would scream bloody murder until they were reinstated.

What you propose is simplistic, completely destructive and absurd.

BTW....what kind of engineering or technical work do you do anyway ?

You still will NOT say how many visas . One million, 10 million, unlimited ?
What would stop visa counterfeiting ?
How in Gods name would legalizing heroin benefit anyone except undertakers .
Who is going to provide for these millions of individuals most of whom can't speak English and only possess a rudimentary education of any kind . What jobs are these millions going to do ? How are they going to survive ?
How in the world would the government 'regulate' these extra millions of visas when they can't control what we have now .
What in the world would prevent the cartels from acquiring visas ( real or counterfeit) and establishing massive cells in the US ?

I'm a retired farmer and home builder. Buy investment property, play with my grandsons and love to travel .

Obviously you are in demand internationally . What is your line of work ?

From 2005 to 2010 the number of legal migration from Mexico to the USA has been about the same as legal Mexicans going back to Mexico. The average is about 280 000 annually. We could start with that since you must have a number.

Drugs used to be legal in the USA. Some abuse and most don't. That won't change no matter what you do. I would take business away from the cartels. Other countries control their immigrants through visas. In America illegals are able to send money home buy rent houses go to HEB etc. That wouldn't happen if they had to use their visa

Curbing welfare for adults can be done.

Curbing welfare for adults will never be done in this political climate . There would literally be non ending protests .
Legalizing hard drugs would result in increased drug use just as it has in Portugal. Death rates would skyrocket .

How are you going to take business from the cartels ? By making heroin legal ? You realize of course that they will merely establish fronts for legal distribution.

Other countries do not have 3rd world poverty adjacent to 1st world afluency . No country on earth faces the raw numbers attempting to enter our country . The problems aren't the same....and the solutions aren't the same .

If the same number of legals leave as well as come ...why is there an estimated 10-20 million illegals currently living in the country ?

You keep talking about visas as if they are some untried panacea. Again work visas already exist . I have hired men with them including my last farm foreman . There are possibly more than your figure of 280,000 using them already .

You mentioned 'starting ' with 280,000. What is your proposed cap ?

The leader of an armed militia that scours the southern border for undocumented migrants had once claimed that his group was training to assassinate former president Barack Obama, former secretary of state Hillary Clinton and billionaire Democratic donor George Soros, the FBI said.

Larry Mitchell Hopkins appeared Monday in U.S. District Court in New Mexico, days after a video of the group holding migrants against their will sparked outrage. The 69-year-old was arrested Saturday in Sunland Park, N.M., on charges of being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition. Wapo

This video explains the border more than all the message board chatter put together .

This is why you needed to be armed ...especially in desolate areas.

This is what folks far away from the border can't fully understand. Mexico is not an all inclusive resort with smiling waiters . It's not a land of sun, fun and margaritas.

It's a corrupt, dangerous, poverty stricken world where the police are as likely to murder you as any cartel gunman .

And THAT world wants to come here . Hell its already here in parts of California, Texas, New Mexico , and Arizona .

Build the freaking wall, pay what's needed to build up the manpower in the Border Patrol and tighten up our ridiculous amnesty laws .

There are mass graves being discovered throughout northern and central Mexico on almost a weekly basis .

Most...if not all....victims of the cartels .

More 'racist lies' ?

That makes 14 of top 20 fairly nearby!

That could be us, eventually, if open borders allow all of them in here!?

Felons should not be in possession of firearms....period .

69 year olds getting their ribs busted while awaiting trial...isn't right either .

My kids are 43, 36 and 35. They are healthy stable and very independent. Two are in Texas and one in California. I have a nursing administrator, a teacher and a lawyer with great spouses ( a doctor, another lawyer and a man that owns his own company) and kids. Each of them makes a lot more money than I did at their age and they dont need my help. I see them and they visit. Isnt that the way its supposed to be? Smart kids that have gotten their education on their own, thrive and lead productive lives? Thanks for letting me brag on my kids.

I made great sacrifices to raise my kids. If you lived in Honduras and feared for the safety of your young family would you consider doing what it takes for a better life or would you stay put?

BTW, your church sounds more like me than you in discussions about immigration.

I can see how you'd say that, but that's an arguable topic

At this time I'll "agree to disagree with you" because for drug cartels, we DO have open borders imo. We have deterrences at border for cartels but in general they operate freely now

My point was obviously YOU don't even live in the continental United States so your attitude towards the risks of illegal immigration is .....interesting.

Besides you have never required an invitation to brag ...be it about your kids or otherwise. Don't care about your occasional bragging....but your mindset about this ever growing wave of illegals is shortsighted.

Others will have to endure the damage from the policies you advocate.

While you live overseas .

I still have a mother 2 brothers 3 kids and 7 grandkids in America. I pay taxes on land and a house and other income. I am in America now. I will always be a Baylor grad and a Texan.

My ideas would take the wind out of the sails of cartels, cut taxes so you could keep more of your money and take a huge cut out of illegal immigration. A wall will not stop drugs or criminals. Most drugs enter through ports, airports and checkpoints. Your way will not change anything.

1, Cut taxes
2. Reform the immigration process
3. Decriminalize drugs
4. Use a much stronger visa system to control non citizens

LIQ, you side more with left than right here, is that fair to you?

I know where you're from and with fam like you have, you'd have to care

However democrats will never get you what your 4 ideas propose.

Democrats will only give you #s 2&3, and not 1&4. FACT

Republicans, give you 1&4, and maybe 2 then 3 in 5-10 years

Point? Democrats won't get ya there bud and I know, now, that ya care about all this

Ya need to comprehend the path to your goals for our country is all I see with ya

Just my opine though
