Quash,

I didn't read a single reply to your original post but I disagree. I've argued my point with our grandchildren for years. Did you happen to see the segment Friday on CNBC regarding illegal pot shops in L.A.?

Calif thought they'd collect billions in tax revenue. Instead they fell way short of that goal. Illegal shops operate openly and some of their product reportedly contained dangerous pesticides.

Now on to the next topic. LIBRA. . When you can buy illegal pot with your Facebook LIBRA money we will know the government no longer has a dog collar on our citizens. It will be so interesting. I wished I could be around to see the decade of the 2020's and beyond.

Legally sold drugs are reducing the flow of illegally sold drugs. Supported by data. Tax expectations are not germane to the argument. Got anything else?
Making a claim but not providing the data he claims supports his point.

Quash gonna quash.

The data are in the OP I started this thread with.

Double checked. Still there.

Walls don't help when most drugs come through our ports of entry. And 77% of the smugglers are US citizens.

Legalization, as shown in the OP, has reduced the importation of drugs. Drug cartels, as criminal enterprises are wont to do, will find a new product line when one gets unprofitable. But for now American markets are doing a better job than govt walls.

quash: "most drugs come through our ports of entry. And 77% of the smugglers are US citizens"

By definition, quash's own statement demonstrates that improved border enforcement will reduce drug flow. "Most drugs come through our ports of entry" is an admission that some illegal drugs do not come through such ports. And if 77% of smugglers are US citizens, then nearly 1 in 4 are not, so better border enforcement addresses the drug smuggling issue as well.

What's more, if we have better physical barriers in place, that frees up more personnel to help catch smugglers trying to get through our ports of entry.

Did you think it was shallow when Trump said it?
"Our southern border is a pipeline for vast quantities of illegal drugs, including meth, heroin, cocaine and fentanyl. Every week, 300 of our citizens are killed by heroin alone, 90 percent of which floods across from our southern border," Trump said in a speech last week about U.S.-Mexico border security.

Trump added in a Tweet the next day: "These numbers will be DRASTICALLY REDUCED if we have a Wall!"

It will help stop some drug smuggling. That's not the sole purpose.

The main purpose of the wall is to stop illegal immigration.

You know, to enforce the federal laws we already have.
