Limbaugh used to have a regular segment where he would mock the deaths of gay men from AIDS. He'd read off their names. Always wondered how that made their families feel.

That turned me off on him for good and that was before he made fun of kids on his show.

You boys are right. Some things shouldnt be mocked

Pretty sure that was a BS story.

Nope. True.
Never heard that story from anyone I considered reliable.

Got support for it?

Soooo no, you don't have support for the accusation.
I didn't make the accusation, and I have no real interest in it either. You implied tommie was unreliable. That simply has never been the case here, and I think I have plenty of support for that statement.
I said the story sounded like BS, not least because the media would have jumped all over Limbaugh if he had said anything remotely like the claim.

I asked for support, and so far no one has offered any such support.

It just doesn't ring true to me, anymore than fictions told about Obama or Hillary.

Especially today, I'm not interested in the accusation, nor in attacking Limbaugh, simply in the sadness that comes with an agonizing death from cancer.

But I will say something when someone attacks the credibility of perhaps the most fair-minded poster I've encountered on this site.

If Alex Jones says Jewish bankers have space lasers, I presume it's bull**** because of his track record. If tommie says it happened, that counts for something.

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/17/business/media/rush-limbaugh-dead.html

In the Limbaugh lexicon, advocates for the homeless were "compassion fascists," women who defended abortion rights were "feminazis," environmentalists were "tree-hugging wackos." He called global warming a hoax and cruelly ridiculed Michael J. Fox, imitating the tremors that were a symptom of the actor's Parkinson's disease.

When hundreds of thousands of Americans were dying of AIDS, Mr. Limbaugh ran a regular segment called "AIDS updates," in which he mocked the deaths of gay men by playing Dionne Warwick's recording of the song "I'll Never Love This Way Again." He later expressed regret for the segment, but he continued to make homophobic remarks over the years; in 2020, he dismissed the presidential bid of Pete Buttigieg by claiming that Americans would be repelled by a "gay guy kissing his husband onstage."

Limbaugh, who does not enjoy contretemps, has cut some of his material, especially on homosexuals. He says he was tired of the "harassment" and also feeling a greater responsibility as his audience grows. He killed a running bit on AIDS after two weeks. "It's the single most regretful thing I've ever done," he says, "because it ended up making fun of people who were dying long, painful and excruciating deaths, when they were not the target. It was a totally irresponsible thing to do."

I'm not happy about his death, but even as a kid I realized he was trashy and backwards. Used to listen to him in carpool, and it was entertaining, sure. I asked my dad about him, and it was the first time anyone had told me a lot of these entertainment types would say anything to get a reaction, good or bad.

The world is a better place without his hateful rhetoric. I wish he could have changed.

Yep.

Given Rush's history, I frankly struggle to see how anyone could be surprised that he said the things attributed to him in this thread. The man was a provocateur and fear-monger, whose intentionally divisive and toxic rhetoric poisoned the minds of millions of listeners.

Am I glad he died? No. I'd never wish death on anyone. But there's a whole lot of revisionist history going on in this thread if we're trying to paint Rush Limbaugh as anything but a Don Imus-esque shock jock. He was really good at firing up his audience and eliciting disgusted reactions from his critics. But I've never seen much virtue in the cynical game he played.

That's a typical idiotic response that I would expect from you. The man was an American patriot in every sense of the word. He loved the country and loved all repeat "ALL" of its citizens. He inspired millions daily and had no equal in terms of explaining what conservatism is in an informative and entertaining way. This is a huge loss to our country at a time when more Rush Limbaugh types are sorely needed.
Your response tells us all we need to know. He was a pig. Thomas Jefferson and George Washington were Patriots. This clown was a brilliant disc jock who was hateful. Certainly no patriot. Glad to see you crawl out from underneath that rock, little johnny!
