Nice to the see the Washington Post grill the WH press secretary on the topic.
It's not a tourist.

This is what it means:

In March 1770, a group of British soldiers fired into a mob in Boston, Massachusetts. The mob very nearly killed the soldiers in retaliation, but instead the soldiers were charged with murder.

No one stepped forward to defend the soldiers, at first. It appeared their trial would be swift and fatal.

Then John Adams took their case and defended the soldiers, leading to an acquittal.

Adams despised what the soldiers had done, but he would not see them deprived of representation.

Many of us see Trump's trial in the same way. We are sick of his arrogance, and eager to see someone new lead the GOP in 2024.

But what the Democrats are doing in these contrived persecutions-as-prosecution, is obscene. Even if the defendant is Donald Trump.

What else is obscene, is how so many people claim to love the Rule of Law, but are totally cool with blatant double standards, because the target is Donald Trump.

If you cannot understand that, God help you.

exactly. He gave a perfectly appropriate speech on 6Jan but failed to concede, ergo he is an insurrectionist.

Wisdom and experience would instruct the open mind to presume every allegation about him is a lie

We do agree on the Trump part. He is more trouble than he is worth to spend this type of political capital before what could be a pivotal election. He needs to go away, but he won't.

What you seem to miss on the documents indictment is that Trump did it. This is not a case with no standing in law, it is totally within the existing law. This is not a set up, he has the documents - 37 of them. This is not some made up law or charge, petty sure, but real.

Maybe he will get lucky and get a hung jury in South Florida. But like the Ukrainian Conversation impeachment (Petty, but again real), he is giving them all the rope they need by doing stupid things. In my opinion, he will be found guilty IF he has the documents they say. It is hard to make a martyr of someone when they are guilty. This is not the hill to die on for Trump, especially if he did it.

Jan 6th, I defended Trump that he is not criminally liable for what happened. Russia-Gate, the FBI agents should have been fired and charged. There are numerous attacks against him. No question. Fair? No, but doesn't change the fact on what they got on him, if he did it. I liken it to Capone, they couldn't get him on the big stuff, they got him on income tax. Is it right? It is politics and he is a liability.

Dems are play Realpolitik and we are talking right and wrong...

Did they happen? Was he impeached twice or not? Who is not being truthful...

You keep throwing out this half baked crap that didn't stand up to any scruitny as fact and say facts never happened. You have been watching too many Trump propaganda shows.
Trump is a jerk, but those impeachment proceedings were garbage, as evidenced by the difference between actual evidence presented and what was touted beforehand.
Be that as it may, they happened. The GOP couldn't stop it, it occurred.

Trump didn't win the election, he lost by 7 million votes. You can say it never happened all you want, but it does not change what happened.

Trump has documents he shouldn't have. All the postulating how he shouldn't be prosecuted doesn't change the fact he is indicted.

Maybe if the GOP lived in the real world and not what they want it to be. The Dems wouldn't be winning. There is limited value in living in what you want, not what occurred.

Harassment is not 'Justice'.

Suppose there was a District Attorney who hated you, and got you arrested over and over on completely bogus charges.

Suppose every time, the jury finds you 'not guilty'.

Is it 'Justice' for that DA to use his office to get you indicted, just because he can?

And suppose that DA is able to use all those crap indictments to make you look bad, after all so many indictments must mean you are guilty of something? Maybe you get a jury which can't find you guilty on the facts, but does find you guilty because they were shown so much smoke they assume there has to be fire.

After the crap impeachments, the years of spying (literally, it turns out) by the DOJ on Trump, the fake dossier, and endless 'investigations' that were based on nothing but spite, no reasonable person should consider any indictment to be an example of proper process.

But some are willing to accept it, solely because they like seeing Trump accused. These people imagine that the wolves will never come to their door.

He has the documents and didn't give them back. This is not harassment or supposition. They got a warrant, went in, got them, showed a Grand Jury and indicted. There is no harassment here. Or, in typical MAGA fashion the FBI, multiple judges, multiple jury members are all in on the conspiracy...

Look at your first sentence.

This is a documents dispute, which could and should have been addressed under the PRA.

And those documents were kept in a secure location behind locked doors and a location which was guarded by federal agents. There was no risk here.

Which - any reasonable person would say - raises the question as to why the Archives demanded those documents from Trump, something notably not done with prior former Presidents (and we know from the brief discussion from discovery of classified documents at numerous other officials' offices and residences, the protocols and procedures were not strictly enforced before 2022), and just why an armed raid by dozens of federal agents was ordered, and by whom.

You keep pretending Trump is some gang-banger and not a former President of the United States, whose behavior regarding documents is actually consistent with other former officials.

We can agree that Donald Trump is arrogant and should have just let the Archives have the documents they wanted. Only a complete a-hole would pretend this is something he should go to prison for.

I won't touch the "gang banger" comment... If you want to get philosophical, the President should be the first person under the law, not above it. But, I know you don't agree with that, at least for Donny-boy.

Who said anything about prison, he will get probation. I can't imagine a former President getting jail time unless he does something really stupid!

If you are right, should see a quick motion to dismiss and Trump has more political ammo.

Will be interesting to see. Typically, when they choose a hometown venue for the trial, a judge that is sympathetic and pushing this hard. They think it is a slam dunk. I know they said Trump had trouble getting a Florida attorney.

You are correct there.

Ok,
Judge found probable cause for search warrant
FBI found docs
Grand Jury found probable cause for a trial
Judge was appointed and
It has not been dismissed

If there is to be any credibility, the process has to play out. Smith will have his shot. We can't pick and choose if the process is met or we become a banana republic. I want to see the process play out.

And I do believe Trump brings on his own drama...
