But the TDS crowd sold their collective conscience long ago.
We do agree on the Trump part. He is more trouble than he is worth to spend this type of political capital before what could be a pivotal election. He needs to go away, but he won't.Oldbear83 said:This is what it means:FLBear5630 said:Oldbear83 said:

In March 1770, a group of British soldiers fired into a mob in Boston, Massachusetts. The mob very nearly killed the soldiers in retaliation, but instead the soldiers were charged with murder.
No one stepped forward to defend the soldiers, at first. It appeared their trial would be swift and fatal.
Then John Adams took their case and defended the soldiers, leading to an acquittal.
Adams despised what the soldiers had done, but he would not see them deprived of representation.
Many of us see Trump's trial in the same way. We are sick of his arrogance, and eager to see someone new lead the GOP in 2024.
But what the Democrats are doing in these contrived persecutions-as-prosecution, is obscene. Even if the defendant is Donald Trump.
What else is obscene, is how so many people claim to love the Rule of Law, but are totally cool with blatant double standards, because the target is Donald Trump.
If you cannot understand that, God help you.
Biden's faulty image is carefully crafted around empathy and compassion and this issue puts enormous cracks in that for 2024, and beyond. It's the kind of thing people talk about presidents 30 years from now. https://t.co/2pUP1i2zev

You keep throwing out this half baked crap that didn't stand up to any scruitny as fact and say facts never happened. You have been watching too many Trump propaganda shows.
Trump didn't win the election, he lost by 7 million votes. You can say it never happened all you want, but it does not change what happened.
Trump has documents he shouldn't have. All the postulating how he shouldn't be prosecuted doesn't change the fact he is indicted.
Maybe if the GOP lived in the real world and not what they want it to be. The Dems wouldn't be winning. There is limited value in living in what you want, not what occurred.
I will take it you mean figuratively, not if he is not guilty. If the Courts or Appeals find in his favor, it is done. That is the way justice works...Oldbear83 said:

He has the documents and didn't give them back. This is not harassment or supposition. They got a warrant, went in, got them, showed a Grand Jury and indicted. There is no harassment here. Or, in typical MAGA fashion the FBI, multiple judges, multiple jury members are all in on the conspiracy...Oldbear83 said:Harassment is not 'Justice'.FLBear5630 said:I will take it you mean figuratively, not if he is not guilty. Suppose there was a District Attorney who hated you, and got you arrested over and over on completely bogus charges.
Suppose every time, the jury finds you 'not guilty'.
Is it 'Justice' for that DA to use his office to get you indicted, just because he can?
And suppose that DA is able to use all those crap indictments to make you look bad, after all so many indictments must mean you are guilty of something? Maybe you get a jury which can't find you guilty on the facts, but does find you guilty because they were shown so much smoke they assume there has to be fire.
After the crap impeachments, the years of spying (literally, it turns out) by the DOJ on Trump, the fake dossier, and endless 'investigations' that were based on nothing but spite, no reasonable person should consider any indictment to be an example of proper process.
But some are willing to accept it, solely because they like seeing Trump accused. These people imagine that the wolves will never come to their door.
Nah, just love dealing with conspiracy idiots.Rawhide said:Shouldn't be hard to channel your inner Trump. After all, he lives rent free in your head.FLBear5630 said:Thank you for pointing that out. Look at your first sentence.
This is a documents dispute, which could and should have been addressed under the PRA.
And those documents were kept in a secure location behind locked doors and a location which was guarded by federal agents. There was no risk here.
Which - any reasonable person would say - raises the question as to why the Archives demanded those documents from Trump, something notably not done with prior former Presidents (and we know from the brief discussion from discovery of classified documents at numerous other officials' offices and residences, the protocols and procedures were not strictly enforced before 2022), and just why an armed raid by dozens of federal agents was ordered, and by whom.
You keep pretending Trump is some gang-banger and not a former President of the United States, whose behavior regarding documents is actually consistent with other former officials.
We can agree that Donald Trump is arrogant and should have just let the Archives have the documents they wanted. Only a complete a-hole would pretend this is something he should go to prison for.
Feds are pushing the envelope quite hard and may yet give some opportunities to the defense.FLBear5630 said:Oldbear83 said:

I won't touch the "gang banger" comment... If you want to get philosophical, the President should be the first person under the law, not above it. But, I know you don't agree with that, at least for Donny-boy.
Who said anything about prison, he will get probation. I can't imagine a former President getting jail time unless he does something really stupid!
If you are right, should see a quick motion to dismiss and Trump has more political ammo.
Will be interesting to see. Typically, when they choose a hometown venue for the trial, a judge that is sympathetic and pushing this hard. They think it is a slam dunk.
