I think Joe Manchin pisses in the Democrat's punch bowl and goes third party. Should be fun to watch.
Ross Perot 2.0 and I think Manchin will win a greater percentage of votes than Perot did.
No chance. If he was wired that way, he'd have already switched parties or gone independent. He's a die-hard moderate Democrat who refuses to admit to himself that his party has left him.
The scenario for Manchin goes like this: Biden exits the picture before 2024 election (pick your reason). Harris moves up as specified in the Constitution, and has to nominate a replacement VP to be confirmed by both houses of Congress. She WILL nominate a Democrat, but who is perhaps the only Democrat that could get confirmed in both houses of Congress?
Joe Manchin.
The only reason I disagree with you is that the Democrats are too arrogant to nominate Manchin for anything. He has been way too vocal and critical of them. They want to punish him, not reward him.
He is fed up with the anti-energy/ Climate Change garbage and the Culture War crap. I do agree with you that Biden will not be the Democrat nominee. Biden barely remembers the steps necessary to take a dump.
Fair point, but the GOP controlled House will not vote for some wild-eyed progressive, or even a staunch liberal. They will seek to "moderate" what the Dems want to do, both in terms of general policy matters as well as the broader political landscape..
Manchin is just such an obvious compromise candidate. That is not to say there might not be others. But selecting him as VP would not risk tipping his home state into the blue column. Same could not be said, for example, about Sinema in AZ, or one of the GA senators, or any of the Great Lake state Democrat governors. Those kinds of factors will all come into play..... Biggest argument against Manchin is that it affects the power balance in the Senate, which is why the GOP should play hardball in support of him. A potential deal would look like this: Manchin for VP, to be replaced by a Republican; McConnell resigns to be replaced by a Democrat.) Senate balance is unchanged. GOP will likely win the McConnell Seat back in 2028. So it'd be a win/win on a lot of levels.
But it makes too much sense so it'll never happen. McConnell seems intent on returning to KY in a coffin.
