Predicting the Big 12 Season: Week 6

August 25, 2021
1,933

The smallest slate of the season features one of the SEC’s smallest rivalries and two other highly contested matchups.

PreviousWeek 1 | Week 2 | Week 3 | Week 4 | Week 5

West Virginia 10 at Baylor 27

Major turning point game for both of these schools but much more of a must win for Baylor at home and they play like it. Trestan Ebner, Sqwirl Williams, Gerry Bohanon, and Abram Smith power a high powered rushing attack that stacks up 170 yards and three scores as they pace the offense and keep the defense on the sideline. The WVU offense struggles mightily as Jarrett Doege turns the ball over twice and they can get nothing going on the ground as they run for less than 75 yards. Terrell Bernard finishes with two sacks and a forced fumble while JT Woods picks off Doege for the second time in two years. The Bears smother the WVU offense and Baylor gets a huge win at home to avenge last seasons shocking loss.

TCU 23 at Texas Tech 20

In the last five matchups between these two schools, three of them have been decided by 3 points or less and with this game being in Lubbock there could be a scare. Both defenses come to play as this is more of a grind it out style game with a couple big plays here and there. TCU hits on big plays with Zach Evans, Kendre Miller, and JD Spielman which keep the offense moving and gets them points. On the other side Kaylon Geiger and SsRodorick Thompson have nice days for the Red Raiders. The Horned Frogs are up 23-20 with just five minutes left but Tyler Shough has the Red Raiders at midfield, driving to win the game over an unbeaten team. Shough drops back and has Erik Ezukanma open down field but he is strip sacked by Ochaun Mathis. The Horned Frogs run out the clock and secure the victory.

Oklahoma 41 vs. Texas 27 (Dallas)

The Sooners vs the Longhorns for the final time in the Big 12? Hopefully. Both offense start strong as Spencer Rattler finds Marvin Mims and Theo Wease for touchdowns while Bijan Robinson and Joshua Moore find the end zone for the Longhorns as the game is 20-14 in favor of Oklahoma at half. In the second half the teams continue to score well but the Longhorns simply don’t have enough weapons late into the game. Spencer Rattler throws two more touchdowns while Kennedy Brooks rushes for another as the Sooners pull away from the Longhorns……simply too many weapons. Positive side the Longhorns pile up 400 yards of total offense but it’s not enough.
