Baylor (4-1) looks to rebound after its first loss of the 2021 football season when it faces West Virginia (2-3) on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT inside McLane Stadium.

Quote of the week...

Dave Aranda: “We're excited for the fans for this next one, for sure. In looking ahead to this week, just seeing the opportunity for us to be able the put a game together, right? To start off a game fast and then to close out, the first half strong, and then to close out the game strong. And to do it with a with a real strong energy and a real strong competitive maturity. When we get into those pressured situations, and those tough moments, to be at our best, I think those are things that we've been really working on and are really looking forward to showing and would love to be able to have a crowd there that can energize us. I know for our players to be able to play in front of the home crowd is something they look forward to.”

Craig Smoak’s Players to Watch

Baylor — QB Gerry Bohanon

With the uptick in competition, Bohanon has shown some growing pains. West Virginia will bring the heat on defense this weekend, and the margin for error will be slim. Bohanon needs to let 'er rip on Saturday while having his head on a swivel. Establishing the passing game early and often is critical to avoiding a repeat of last week's first half.

West Virginia — Quarterback Jarret Doege

Throughout his career, Doege has been prone to inconsistency and turnovers, similar to Spencer Sanders. Take last Saturday, for example. His first drive interception and third drive sack-fumble directly led to Tech's early 14-0 lead. Then, in the second half, the Texas native led four scoring drives to tie the game at 20 before falling to a late field goal. Backup Garrett Greene will be involved too, but a lot will ride on which version of Doege shows up against the Bears defense.

Have to admit I did not see this coming. No complaints, though.

OK - That should do it for sure. Man, just like I never saw last week coming, I never saw this coming either. Definitely felt we could win, but I thought it was going to be one of those sweat it out wins if we did take it

I will take the blame for that opening half drive. I took my jersey off at half time when I went outside to mess with my smoker. Forgot to put it back on.

Jersey back on now.

I appreciate you taking ownership but you know better!

You need to take a penalty shot. I recommend CasaMigos Resposado.

Yikes. Just got in from golf, turn on the TV and they show a wide angle shot of the crowd. You'd think we are 0-5 and lost every game by double digits. Meanwhile, we're winning 42-13.

Early start means more of the east side is in the shade, so the top 4-5 rows of the 2nd deck and top 10-12 rows of the 3rd deck are still in the shade and fairly well populated. Lower rows are sparse.

That also means more of the west side is in the sun. Lower 3-4 rows of the club level are even empty. But the concourses on all levels are 2-4 deep all the way around, even club level.

Aranda has to call timeout there to make sure we have the right number on the field.

One last player running off didn't make it in time. Turns out he was the 11th one on the field, so we ended up with only 10 during the play.

Wow! Great stats from Bohanon. Were the TD passes down the field or short passes the receivers turned into long gains?

All I got here is Balcones Baby Blue….that'll have to do.

I'm going to take 2 penalty shots just to make sure I learn my lesson.

First one was a 10 yarder that turned into a 75 yarder, most of the others were down the field.

I can't remember the name of the great punter we had during the miserable Steele years (when he was literally our best "offensive" player) but I'm thinking we may just have the best punter we've had since that guy.

Sepulveda, but wasn't he a Morris player? Maybe Steele signed him, but he definitely won the Ray Guy under Morris.
