New offer Brian Johnson: 'I've always liked Baylor'
March 27 was a day Brian Johnson said he'll never forget.
With his recruiting process on an uptick, Johnson was thrilled to receive news on that day that he picked up an offer from Baylor, a school the 6-foot-1, 185-pound outside linebacker/safety hybrid said has "always been a top-10 school." Baylor is his latest offer, and it's a school he said he can see himself as a major contributor in the secondary.

"I've always liked Baylor," Johnson said. "I was excited when they first reached out to me. I really like [linebackers] Coach [Mike] Siravo, and I've got a good relationship with [Director of Player Personnel] Coach [Evan] Cooper and [defensive backs] Coach Fran [Brown]."
The Manvel High School prospect said he will play safety during his senior year, but he can also play outside linebacker and nickelback at the next level. Johnson claims 15 offers, which includes Missouri, West Virginia, Oklahoma State, Arizona State and Indiana.
Johnson is a quick, aggressive athlete who loves to make the big hit. Even at The Opening's Houston regional, he showed his aggressiveness in "Cat & Mouse," a drill pitting linebackers against running backs in a two-hand touch workout. The drill is not designed to be overly intense or combative.
"I made the guy fall. It was an accident." Johnson joked. "That's just me. I play with a lot of aggression. People try to test me on the field. That's when I have to get my respect, so they can respect me.
"I can get to a play real quick, and I can cover ground fast. If you need a big play, I'm right there. I'm always looking to make the big hit."
Johnson is on a Manvel team that's loaded with talent. He said lining up on a daily basis against athletes like stud receivers Jalen Preston and Kam Scott -- two other athletes with Baylor offers -- is his equivalent of iron sharpening iron.
An offer from Baylor gives Johnson the chance to be reunited with an old friend. He has known defensive tackle Michael Johnson since they were little.
"He's like my big brother. He's always been my brother to go to," Brian said of Michael. "We played [youth] league together. It's good to see how good he's doing there.
"I was excited when Baylor reached out. [Michael] said he hopes we can play together again. That'd be great."
Johnson said he's in no rush to announce a commitment, and he plans on making a few spring and summer visits. A Florida visit is scheduled this weekend, and trips to Oklahoma State and Iowa State are in his immediate future plans.
He also said he's looking to get back to Baylor soon.
"Very soon, like before the summer," he said. "I want to see the coaches and talk to them again. To have the coaches reach out to me, that really means a lot. All I can say is wow, God is good."
