Baylor climbs to No. 8 in latest College Football Playoff Top 25

In the latest version of the College Football Playoff Top 25, the Baylor Bears (9-2) reached a season high of No. 8. The move comes after Baylor’s notable road victory over Kansas State (7-4) in Manhattan that ended a four-game winning streak for the Wildcats. KSU was 2.5-point favorites in the contest.

Baylor moves back into the top 10 for the first time since the final poll of the 2019 football season when it was ranked No. 7 following a loss to No. 6 in the Big 12 Championship game. The Bears spent three weeks in the top 10 to end the season.

Prior to 2019, Baylor spent six weeks inside the top 10 of the CFP Top 25 in 2014 and four weeks in 2015.

Baylor’s resume is built on key victories over No. 10 Oklahoma and No. 13 BYU as well as victories over bowl eligible teams Kansas State (7-4) and Iowa State (6-4). West Virginia (5-6) could become bowl eligible with a win at Kansas the final weekend of the regular season.

In its regular season finale, Baylor will have an additional opportunity for victory over a bowl eligible opponent as Texas Tech (6-5) heads to Waco. The game is schedule for 11 a.m. CT and will be aired live on FS1.

Each of Baylor’s losses came on the road including at No. 7 Oklahoma State (10-1) and at TCU (5-6).

Honestly higher than I thought. Also makes me even more sick about TCU loss. We would have a real shot at playoffs.

I feel like this is where we would be even if we had beat TCU. The difference is, we can only move up a spot or two if we win out. I see little chance of breaking into the top 4.

Yep. When we lost, we only dropped one spot. The committee likes us … as much as they can.

TCU can also become bowl eligible

Are... are we starting to get some legitimate respect in the world?

It was infuriating during the Brile's era that we never got rankings that felt commensurate with what we'd accomplished. Of course that first playoff in 2014 will always loom in our mind's as a permanent marker of disrespect.

But the last few years (as our program has shown staying power under different coaches), and especially this year, it feels like things have changed. Highest two loss team in the country right now--and effectively being given the benefit of the doubt for the TCU game, which we did not get against WVU in 2014.

Are we approaching a new level of respect in the football world? Certainly not blue blood, but damn this feels better than just a handful of years ago.

Beating BYU in non-conference instead of Sisters of the Poor seems to have made quite a difference to the committee.

9 conference games+BYU is a solid schedule.

Ding ding. BYU mowed down pretty much every one of their Pac12 opponents. Transient property helped us here greatly.

I really don't know if we are ready for the playoff yet. We could use some more depth.

I would be tickled pink if we could win out, play in a NY6 bowl and ACTUALLY WIN this time...

That would set us up for great success in the near future.
