Baylor Hopes to Hire New Soccer Coach before Christmas Break

Baylor hopes to have a new soccer coach in place before the students depart for Christmas break according to Athletic Director Mack Rhoades.

Given how close that deadline is, a hire could be announced sometime in the next seven to ten days.

The coaching search comes on the heels of Paul Jobson’s decision to step away from the program on November 16th. Jobson had spent 14 years with Baylor Soccer, the first five working as an assistant with his wife Marci, the next nine as the head coach.

He leaves as the winningest coach in program history, and, based on the outpouring of goodwill towards him following the announcement, everybody was sad to see him step down.

Given the coaching culture at Baylor, Paul Jobson was a great fit alongside Scott Drew, Dave Aranda and Nicki Collen. He emphasized faith and family at least as much as athletic success, two things that are at the core of Baylor University’s values.

It will not be easy for Rhoades to find a coach that can follow up what Jobson accomplished and by December 16th no less. However, we have all seen the success of Matt Rhule, the transition to success under Aranda, and the good fit and promise that Collen is showing.

With a roster of hard-working and talented players plus a family-like culture already in place, whomever Mack Rhoades finds for Baylor Soccer’s next head coach will have every chance to succeed.
