In the final College Football Playoff Top 25 Rankings, the Baylor Bears (11-2) received its highest ranking of the season at No. 7. The Bears climb from No. 9 last week came on the heels of a victory in the Big 12 Championship game of Oklahoma State (11-2). OSU was ranked No. 5 at the time of the game.

As the Big 12 Champion, and with both SEC team’s Georgia and Alabama reaching the four-team playoff, Baylor will face Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl on Saturday, Jan. 1 at 7:45 p.m. CT. The game wll be played at the Caesers Superdome in New Orleans.

Baylor finished the season with three top 25 victories on the season including Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and BYU. The Bears also collected wins over bowl eligible teams Kansas State (7-5), Iowa State (7-5), West Virginia (6-6) and Texas Tech (6-6).

Baylor will participate in its second in the last New Year’s Six Bowl game in the last three years and its fourth since 2013. Baylor faced Georgia in Sugar Bowl following the 2019 season.

You could argue we should be #5 really.

Baylor definitely should be #5 CFP and should of been #3 or #4 if we were 12-1

No surprise here. Seems to suggest even without the TCU loss it would be a tall order for us to be in the final four.

You're right. Rooting for UM and UC.

Final ranking of 7 is insulting, but ultimately doesn't really matter I guess. Looking forward to a good showing in NOLA!

They should have ranked GA 4. If we got to watch them Alabama-ga play again get it over with. I hope they both lose the first round

I'm tired and over trying to impress the CFP in this beauty pageant. We have the 3 most impressive wins and a conference championship.

Let's go Bears - beat Ole Miss!

Honestly if you look at strength of schedule and wins versus ranked opponents Baylor should be ranked 3rd, ahead of Georgia and Cincinnati. The playoff system and the playoff committee are complete jokes.

Go back to the computer. At least it was objective.

All of sudden, one bad loss (TCU) trumps 3 good wins when being compared to OSU. I can remember last time the committee ignored their loss to minn.

Same old ****, subjective biased results when it comes down to it.

Need to move to 8 in the playoff picture

Of course the SEC won't want any part of 8, they have it made with the current system.

SEC wants 12 which is unfair to "student athletes".

You misunderstand. The CFP committee is simply designed to select to participants in the invitational playoff. This playoff and all other NY6 bowls are owned by ESPN for broadcast rights. Bottom line is CFP is set by and for ESPN. They will look out for their interests and invite them teams they think will get most viewing interest. Simple as that.

Eugene gets it. The College Football Playoff presented by Dr Pepper and brought to you by ESPN is a made-for-TV, scripted reality, two-part, mini-series. That's why, in D1 football, the conference championship is a bigger deal than the mythical national championship. It's decided on the field.

Given how we played yesterday, to win by an inch because of an impotent second half offense, you should be kissing butts from here to NOLA to not only get back to a NY6, but this time face a beatable SEC team not named Georgia or Alabama.

The whole committee idea was to get the power in the hwnds of a t.v. controlled group. They will will be in charge until the 8 or 12 team format starts. Sad but typically NCCA. Big t.v. rules. Another reason for the move to U S C

In this piece, UTSA is missing from the bowl-eligible teams BU defeated this season, which means 8 of the 12 teams we faced are, at season's end, either ranked or bowl-eligible. 'Twould be interesting to see how many other P5 teams in the country rise to that standard.

I just wonder what would have happened and if the committee would have applied the same rules if Bama would have lost to Auburn and then beat UGA like they did.

Exactly. This is why the playoff should be abolished rather than give it any additional relevance with talks of expansions that are either unworkable or won't solve the inherent flaws of a broken system that only benefits the money grubbing media (espn)

OL Miss is very good. Our O has only averaged scoring 22.6 points per game in the last 3 games. We'll need more to beat Lebby, and the hybrid Briles O.

Good thing we have a good defense too.
