Baylor women’s basketball was named the No. 2 seed in the Wichita Region by the NCAA Tournament committee on Sunday evening. The Bears are the No. 5 overall seed in the tournament.
Baylor will play its first two games of the NCAA Tournament in Waco and is set to face No. 15 seed Hawai’i in the round of 64 on Friday. With a win over the Hawai’i, Baylor would face the winner of Ole Miss and South Dakota in the round of 32.
If the Bears advance to the second weekend, Sweet 16 and Elite Eight contests would be played in Wichita, Kansas.
Baylor is now a No. 2 seed for the fifth time in the last 10 tournaments. Three of the last four times Baylor was a 2 seed, the Bears reached the Elite Eight. They also reached the Elite Eight six of the last seven tournaments altogether.
The Bears dropped the Big 12 tournament championship game to Texas earlier Sunday to enter the tournament with a 27-6 record in Nicki Collen’s first year.
Baylor won the Big 12 regular-season championship outright with a 15-3 conference record.
