WACO, Texas – Baylor softball defeated Iowa State, 1-0, Friday night at Getterman Stadium to take game one of the three-game series.

With the only run of the game scored in the bottom of the sixth, starting pitcher Dariana Orme picked up her third complete-game shutout this season.

Baylor strung six hits together, starting out strong with singles in the bottom of the first from McKenzie Wilson and Aliyah Binford.

Wilson, who was two-for-two at the plate, doubled off of the top of the wall in right field in the bottom of the third but wasn’t able to come home and score.

BU had base runners in the fourth and fifth innings as the Bears threatened but weren’t able to capitalize.

Iowa State got two runners on in the top of the sixth before Orme struck out the last batter of the inning.

Ana Watson got things started for the Bears in the bottom of the sixth, drawing a full-count walk. Kaci West then singled up the middle moving Watson over, before Sydney Collazos hit a ball to center field bringing home Watson from second.

With just three outs away from the Bears' 11th shutout this season, two groundouts and a lineout to Binford closed out the game.

TOP QUOTES

Glenn Moore on the game …

“We couldn’t get it to fall at the right time. I thought we did good stuff though. Dari, of course, was very efficient. I don’t know when she’s thrown less than a hundred pitches. That’s a good sign for needing her later in the weekend. We had some good at-bats, just couldn’t get them to fall. Aliyah hits one hard. McKenzie starts the game off by smoking one off the wall that’s out of any other park. We just can’t seem to push them across. But we got enough. All we needed was one because of our defense and because of Dari, and we got that right in the nick of time.”

Sydney Collazos on her game-winning hit…

“It was awesome. We finally got some back-to-back hits to bring in a run because we have a lot of people on this roster hitting the ball hard, just not clicking with the back-to-back, so that was huge. It was nice, it felt good that it was me and be productive for my team.”

Dariana Orme on tonight’s performance…

“For me, I know the type of team I play with, and I know that as long I can keep going out there, we can get a zero on the board they’re going to come around and put a run on the board for me. I trust them, I know they’re going to get it done. Sometimes it does take a little bit longer, but I know at the end of the day they’re going to get it done. So, it’s a little easier to work with that”
