Baylor Baseball Picks Up a Midweek Win over Tarleton State, 8-2
WACO, Texas – Baylor baseball (23-22, 5-13) picked a midweek win over Tarleton State (13-31, 6-15) on Tuesday night at Baylor Ballpark, 8-2.
Tonight, the offense was able to pick up right where they left off on Sunday against Texas Tech. The Bears put up a blistering eight runs on eight hits and six walks.
With two outs in the bottom of the first inning, BU was able to pick up three quick runs thanks to RBI singles from both Cortlan Castle and Esteban Cardoza-Oquendo.
A couple of RBI groundouts in the second from Kyle Nevin and Tre Richardson put two more runs on the board for the green and gold. Baylor led 5-0 through two innings.
Cam Caley started the game on the bump and had his best performance of the year. Caley went a season-long, five innings pitched, without giving up a hit until getting pulled in the sixth in favor of sophomore reliever, Grant Golomb. Caley finished the evening with 5 IP and gave up an R, ER, H, 4 BB, and struck out 5 on 69 pitches.
The Bears added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning due to a couple of throwing errors from the Texans. At one point, Jack Pineda singled up the middle and was caught in a rundown going back to first base when a Tarleton State infielder errantly threw the ball back to a vacant first base. Pineda advanced to second and Richardson was able to easily score from third. Baylor led 8-1 after the sixth inning.
Grant Golomb also had arguably his best performance of the year on the mound. Golomb shut down the later innings and went 3 IP, only allowing one hit and striking out five on 32 pitches.
For one of the few times in recent weeks, the game was never in doubt for the Bears. They cruised to an easy 8-2 victory on Tuesday night and only allowed four hits total to Tarleton State. It’s always nice to pick up a win before having to take a week and a half off-break from playing any games.

POTG: Jack Pineda 2-4, 2 R, RB, BBI
