Baylor adds Louisiana Tech grad transfer QB Luke Anthony

Louisiana Tech grad transfer quarterback Luke Anthony has decided to walk on at Baylor to finish out his career. The 6-foot-1, 208-pound prospect will be immediately eligible to play for the 2022 season and he will compete to be the back up this year behind Blake Shapen. His starting experience could give him an edge over the other quarterbacks on the roster.

The 2020 C-USA Newcomer of the Year finished with 1,479 yards, 16 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 62.4% of his passes.

He spent his first four years of college at Abilene Christian and was the starter for both the 2018 and 2019 seasons. During those two years he threw for 5,544 yards and 40 touchdowns with 20 interceptions. He completed 64.6% of his passes.

While at ACU he played against Baylor in 2018. He went 26-for-39 for 231 yards and two touchdowns with one interception. Baylor won that game 55-27 but at the time people were shocked by how much ACU was able to score against the Bears.

Solid get! Tons of D1 starting experience, talented, and a good QB. He will also be able to help mentor Shapen in his new role as QB1. Welcome Luke and SIC 'EM!!!!

I remember him being pretty decent when Abilene Christian played us. Decent enough to where I wondered if he would try to transfer to a P5 at some point. Glad to have him

Solves our backup QB spot. Gives Drones and the Argyle kid more time to learn.

He was pretty good in Waco. Here is a shortened version of the game:

Where was he in 2021?

Sounds like an interesting backup, 40 to 20 TDs to INTs isnt horrible..

Basically wasn't ready to play due to a tibia and fibula fracture sustained in the final game of the '20 season against TCU.

Sure looks like we are trying to get more running QBs... I would venture to guess that Grimes likes being able to throw the ball? Novosad fits that type as well. (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

Kid has nice numbers and will fit in well.

Wilson - 6'3" 210
Shapen - 6' 190
Anthony - 6'1" 208
Novosad - 6'3 180

All throw well. Looks like we have a type?? Question I have is can Drones throw?? Do not know a lot about him. Any info (to discuss).? Looks to me like it you can't sling it, Grimes is not for you. One thing all these guys have in common, is they are passers first, runners second.

This will help RB recruiting as well. Stud RB's don't want to go where the QB is the primary running option. Could be why we had to switch LB to RB.

I am very excited to see this offense operate on all cylinders. Aranda is my type of Coach, making all the right moves.

That Ohio State offer is concerning but since I cant do a damn thing about it, not gonna worry, Aranda always appears to have a backup plan

My guess is he will stick with BU. Why? Look at OSU starters 2008, any resemble Novosad as a player? He is not what has started there in over a decade, they like running QBs. He has a much better shot at BU.

CJ Stroud not much of a runner with his -20 rushing yards last year and 44 passing TDs

You think Novosad is going to get the nod over CJ Stroud??? Or even the opportunity? Burrows and Evers had to leave, obviously prototype dropback passers are not what they want. If those two can't crack it, do you take that chance?

I don't think Novosad is better than CJ Stroud. I'm just saying for loving running QBs OSU is starting one that doesn't really run effectively, I mean Joe Burrow was a better runner. Dwayne Haskins not much of a runner at all either.

Ok, I just don't think he is a fit for their choice of offense.
