83 Days till Kickoff: Bryce Petty's 83 career Touchdowns
As always, keep track of both the stats and roster countdowns in the Offseason Hub!
Four days ago, we took a look at Baylor’s record for touchdown responsibility (weird name, but quarterbacks don’t technically score on passing touchdowns). Coming in at third on that list was Bryce Petty with 83 touchdowns, thanks to his 62 passing TDs and 21 rushing. Robert Griffin III was first with 111 and Charlie Brewer was second with 87.
Petty, as most of you know, played from 2010 to 2014 and was the starter in ’13 and ’14. He racked up 32 TDs through the air, 14 on the ground, and was picked off just three times as a Junior. In his Senior season the next year, Petty registered 29 passing TDs and 6 rushing TDs while throwing 7 interceptions in 11 games.
Petty holds Baylor records for the most rushing TDs in a single season by a QB (14), the most consecutive games with a touchdown pass (25, 2013-15), most consecutive pass attempts without an interception (229, 2013), most 300-yard passing games in a career (16), and yards per play in a career (8.23) to name just a few. He also holds the record for most passing yards and TDs in a single game at McLane Stadium (510 and 6 TDs vs TCU 2014).
If all those records by Petty weren’t enough for you on day 83, then hopefully you can enjoy Bryce’s 83-yard touchdown pass to Antwan Goodley against Buffalo in 2013.
Yes this is not the first time we have pulled a long-yardage highlight from that game. No we have not run out of highlights yet.
