78 Days till Kickoff: Robert Griffin III's 78 Career Passing Touchdowns
As always, keep track of both the stats and roster countdowns in the Offseason Hub!
The best quarterbacks in Baylor history, at least in the modern passing game era, have been responsible for about 80 touchdowns combined between air and ground. Seth Russell had 80 TDs, Bryce Petty had 83, and Charlie Brewer had 87. But Robert Griffin III, Baylor’s only Heisman Trophy winner had 78 passing touchdowns in his career.
Let me reiterate: 78 touchdowns throughout the air alone for Griffin. That is more TDs than all but three Baylor QBs scored through the air and on the ground in their careers. Griffin was just nine passing CDs away from matching Brewer’s combined total.
Griffin was truly something else in the backfield for the Bears. He could sling the ball all across the field or punish you with his speed, whichever he fancied at any given moment. Griffin scored 33 rushing touchdowns in his career, 10 of which came during his senior, Heisman Trophy-winning campaign. He also threw 37 pass TDs and just 6 interceptions while amassing 4,293 passings yards and 699 rushing yards.
Griffin’s 78th and final passing TD in a Baylor uniform came in the first quarter of the 2011 Alamo Bowl against Washington.
