MBB: Five-star 2023 guard Ja'Kobe Walter commits to Baylor

Baylor MBB recruiting continues to roll with the commitment of another 5-star guard from the state of Texas. Ja'Kobe Walter (6-6 185 lbs) gave his verbal pledge to Baylor over Texas, Alabama and Auburn.

Walter averaged 23 points and 8 rebounds for McKinney High School in leading them to the state championship game where they lost to Duncanville.  Walter has been tearing it up on the AAU circuit for Trae Young 3SSB.  He is averaging 23 ppg; 4 rebounds and 3 assists.  He’s 92% from the foul line (48-52) through 7 games.

He plans to play his senior year at Link Academy in Branson, Missouri where he will compete on the NIBC circuit where current Baylor freshman Keyonte George showcased his skills for IMG Academy this past season.

What is Baylor getting in Ja’Kobe Walter?  Above all a fierce competitor who hates to lose.  His size gives him a great advantage as a defender where he can guard multiple positions.  He’s outstanding with the ball in his hands using ball screens.  His shot is terrific from distance, but he also has an ability to score in the mid range and at the rim.  He’s a willing passer and good rebounder.

The Bears currently have two impact commitments in the 2023 class now that Walter is in the fold.  Baylor previously got a pledge from Miro Little who will play his senior season at Sunrise Christian Academy where he will go head to head against Walter during the season.

If you have a chance to see him play on AAU this summer - get out and go....besides the stat lines JW just does all the little things right to make his teammates better....he's sneaky on the court. Drew has so many weapons - - Baylor is putting the B12 on notice - - Everything goes through Waco!

Agreed. He is an intense competitor and a plus defender. An elite two-way player which is rare these days.
